Baby Size at 20 week scan...

Hi all...

Had a scan today (actually 21+4) and everything seems to be fine but a bit concerned about some of the measurements.

The head, femur and all other measurements are on or just below the halfway mark on the size scale, and then the abdominal circumference is almost off the scale!

The sonographer didn't mention it, and in fact I only noticed once we had left and read the report...

Did this happen to anyone else? Is it fairly normal to differ so much from the other measurements?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Have a picture in my head now of the baby being born with the appearance of a bumblebee... hmmmmm....

Gosh, I don't know, but didn't want to leave your post unanswered. I know this is probably terrible advice but have you googled, to find out why it is that they measure the abdominal circumference/what it tells them/if it means anything at all to get a big or small measurement at this early stage?

I would try ringing the midwife to canvass her opinion, if she doesn't know/can't tell you, ring your GP, or the hospital maternity outpatients and ask to speak to someone about the scan. Am sure it's fine or they would have said something - could it have even been a typo which when plotted on a chart gives some wild readings?

Good luck, let us know what you find out.

My 12 weeks scan showed measurements on the higher side, so for few days I imagined my baby with an elephant-size head :/ Then I spoke with a friend, she had her baby's head measured outside the normal range, but when he was born he was absolutely fine. I stopped worrying with mine. I am sure everything will be fine.

When I had growth scans with my dd, the measurements for her abdomen were completely off the scale and out of proportion to the rest of the measurements. When she was born she turned out to be a thin little baby who bore no resemblance whatsoever to any of the measurements I'd been given. In fact you would almost swear that they had been looking at a completely different child.

Don't worry about it - if it was anything to worry about they would have said. If it's on the scale it's still normal. DS's head was almost off the scale too. Also, I find, that they whizz through the scans very quickly!

Yup - DD was on 98th centile for abdomen on all the scans and between 40th and 60th for everything else. (She's now 2 and still has a biig tummy, though is tiny in every other respect.) This pregnancy - a boy - exactly same measurements at 20 week scan.

I wouldnt worry Im on preg 4 and all of mine have shown big tummys, Ive just had a growth scan at 33 weeks (the cords not working as it should) and the belly circum is well off the charts (saying 39wks and 6days) and the weight is over 7lb's (and they were worried dc would be small - honestly I look like a weeble).
If there was any concern then they would follow is up.
Good luck.
