I know it's harder / takes longer to feel your first baby move, but when did you feel it for the first time? I know how the movements are described, but someone told me I would first feel it low down on the right side, is this true?!

I am so excited about feeling the first movements!

16 weeks

DonDons · 06/06/2010 20:58

oops - meant to also say, can't remember what position but surely depends on baby. 2nd time, 15 weeks.

Effjay · 06/06/2010 20:58

I think it was 18 weeks for the first and 16 weeks for the second. For my first, I felt a small gurgling feeling and I was convinced I was miscarrying (as I'd had a miscarriage previously at 11 weeks). However, the next day I thought about it and realised it was the baby moving. It was a magical moment!

Amarilis · 06/06/2010 20:58

Ooo.. Not long then.. I am 15 tomorrow... What did it feel like and was it low on the right side?!!

Amarilis · 06/06/2010 21:00

Effjay - me too, miscarried at 10.5 weeks, so this baby is very precious (as I know they all are)

I was 18 weeks, and I think it was down low on the right hand side was very though. 20 weeks now and it's still very sporadic but definitely baby and not gas!

pipinmybelly · 06/06/2010 21:01

it was low down, cant remember if it was on a particular side...does feel like wind tho!!

SparklyJules · 06/06/2010 21:03

18 weeks for my first - felt like holding a fluttering butterfly in my hands.

16 weeks for second.

I kept waking up during the night from about 17/18 weeks on and feeling quite strong cramps lol

Now I know it was just the baby moving but for some reason at the very beginning this seemed to put quite a lot of pressure on my ligaments/organs and caused a bit of a twinge. About a week or two after that (19/20 weeks) I started feeling definite kicks and wriggles! And now (29 weeks) it's all the time!!

Think everyone is different though, I was worried because other people I knew seemed to be able to feel it from about 15 weeks but everything seems fine now...

LittleBeth53 · 06/06/2010 21:08

I felt mine at 18 weeks. It felt like, you know when your heart flutters or does a little palpitate or skips a beat? If felt like that but in my tummy, a couple of inches below my belly button. After I worked out what it was it was wonderful. Now I'm 25 weeks & the kicks feel exactly that - like I'm being kicked from the inside all day every day!

pipinmybelly · 06/06/2010 21:14

32 weeks is no better littlebeth he bloody hurts!! and seems to like squeezing himself into my ribs too which is so uncomfortable!! be glad when he drops so at least i can breathe...the first movements are the best and provide the reasusurance u dont get but need in the early months...i also miscarried last year so being able to feel him move, made this pregnancy feel so much more real to me xx

Effjay · 06/06/2010 21:16

Good luck Amarilis. My DS is 4 now and DD is 2. I had very straightforward pregnancies and births after the miscarriage (thankfully).

13 weeks. felt like a dvd firing up on your laptop. funny and whirring.

franke · 06/06/2010 21:23

19-20 weeks (just before my scan). It felt like the inside wall of my womb was being gently pinged . I imagined her launching herself with her feet to do a couple of early morning laps. it was a barely-there feeling but absolutely unmistakeable. Happy memories and so exciting.

Partyofsevensoontobeeight · 06/06/2010 21:27

I had movements from about 15wks with 3 of mine but dc3 was about 13wks, my last one dc5 was born 4 months ago and i didn't feel her move until about 29wks and then hardly ever, was soooo weird.

i had to have a scan at 35wks and she couldn't measure because the baby wouldn't keep still and i was lay there not feeling anything.

a mw friend said it was probably because my placenta was across the front so cushioned most of the movements

enjoy the rest of your pg

Xavielli · 06/06/2010 21:46

Around the same time as the gender scan. Felt very similar to the feeling you get in your chest when excited (but just above pubis, obviously)

2nd was at about 17 weeks

This one I've been feeling daily since 15 weeks. (It's made the loss of my stomach muscles/tone seem worthwhile)

bsmirched · 06/06/2010 22:49

About 16 weeks, felt like little flickers, very, very irregularly and were very low down on the right.

toja555 · 07/06/2010 09:16

With the first aroun 21 weeks, with the second started randomly feel few days ago (now 18+3)

MargaretAtwood3660 · 07/06/2010 09:21

can't recall but second was 11 weeks.

BalloonSlayer · 07/06/2010 09:31

With my first it was well over 20 weeks, perhaps even 21. I was so worried!

(My book said it could be as late as 19 or 20 weeks with the first, but would be earlier with the second, adding in a sceptical tone that "some women claim to have felt their subsequent babies move as early as 14 weeks")

The second I consequently expected to feel a lot earlier, but it was about 19 weeks.

But my third - I was sitting on the bed at 13 weeks and felt a strong feeling like a fish flapping around. I was amazed.

I guess it's where they are lying that makes the difference.
