A couple of people have said this to me after appraising my bump! I was wondering if any of you had been told something similar and gone on to prove people wrong?

I desperately don't want this baby to be early - only supposed to be finishing work 10 days before due date!- so would love to hear from you! (Don't worry, I'm not stupid enough to think there's the slightest thing I could do about when baby decides to make an appearance!)

I have been told similar and gone +10 and +13 days. I have been told my babies will be girls and both are boys. People always know everything when they see a pregnant woman. I was told yesterday by a woman in Tesco how baby had dropped etc. - he isn't even engaged and still rolls completely around! Always be prepared though

RobynLou · 06/06/2010 16:01

I was told the same with dd - nonsense!

5inthebed · 06/06/2010 16:01

I had massive bumps with all three of my pregnancies, especially with my last one. I was 4' 4'' around my middle the day before I gave birth and got comments like this from about 25 weeks!

Ignore them, you're baby will come when it's ready and not when your bump size dictates.

vmcd28 · 06/06/2010 16:04

yes, i was MASSIVE with my DS, and he had to be induced at 41+4.
Doesnt matter - it seemed like a lifetime then, but it's all a distant memory when the baby arrives,so try not to sweat it.

JamieJay · 06/06/2010 16:09

Everyone has an opinion on bumps and none of them know much - baby will come when baby is ready!!

I've a smallish bump as I'm tall and broad so baby has plenty of space to hide - I've had 3 people in the last fortnight tell me there is no way I am 32 weeks and I must have got my dates wrong - of course the positive pregnancy test last November and 6 scans I had since then must all be lying!

Smile sweetly and ignore!!

TotalChaos · 06/06/2010 16:13

ignore any bump opinions from anyone who isn't a doctor or midwife! i had some freak in the pub claim to be a doctor working at the local women's hospital (funny how he didnt know any of the ward names there eh...) and tell me at 36 weeks I was only going to go another week - when I went at 39.4.

Allegrogirl · 06/06/2010 16:16

My GP told me I wouldn't be waiting much longer and baby will probably be early when I went to see him due to awful back pain at 36 weeks.

Induced at 40+6.

chimchar · 06/06/2010 16:21

everyone said that to me about my bumps...they were huge each time. i went over by 5 days, 7 days and 14 days with my last.

tell them to fuck off...they have no idea!

bsmirched · 06/06/2010 17:23

Advice is free, and should be assessed as to its value i.e. often free stuff is not worth the price.

This goes for most topics so it is up to you what you choose to believe.

My advice - no child comes with an instruction book and people can only advise on what they've read/heard/experienced/etc.

Here's an odd example. Two bank workers were held up in a bank robbery. 1st described the person as 5ft tall, wearing a red top and blue jeans. The other 5ft short wearing a hood top and had a limp. Both were right but it turned out slightly wrong - the robber had black jeans and a back pack (that matched the jumper giving the impression of a hooded top.

Point - we see things differently.

I was absolutely massive with DS2 and was expected to pop at any moment. I went over 14 days in the end.

I don't think its the size of your bump, but whether or not you have a lazy little blighter inside who is far too comfortable!

With DD1 (third child) I had quite a small bump and she came 3 weeks early.

What will be will be.

wickedfairy · 08/06/2010 15:45

I was told this during my last pregnancy by many, many people - my bump was massive!

They turned out to be right - DS was born at 34 weeks! Premature and needing neonatal care, but he was big for his gestation the hospital said. he is now 3.5 years and doing great, still big (tall, not fat) and in clothes for 5 year olds!!

Big bump again this time but I have the feeling I will go overdue, don't know why I feel that, I just do!

MiniMarmite · 08/06/2010 15:58

People said that to me and I went on another 7...by which time I was desperate for DS to make an appearance!

Now I'm on my second pregnancy and people are already saying I can't have long to go or there must be twins...I'm only 15 weeks
