It depends on your initial weight and other factors. As long as the midwife thinks it's fine, then it is.

midwife hasnt weighed me at any of my last few antenatal appointments...im nearly 12 and a half stone now, boobs are quite big and everyone comments on how neat i am so i cant look fat, iv never been small, average size 12...with boobs no hips or bum tho!!

You are pregnant, you will put on weight. When the baby comes you will lose it.

I am 35 weeks now and havent been weighed since my booking appointment, bmi was 24 then, and look and feel huge right now but Im not planning to get on the scales again until October

Focus on enjoying your pregnancy and your new baby for now.

thanks pinkgrapefruit i know u are right, and my post may sound quite shallow and superficial but i just wondered if there was a 'normal' weight gain...but il worry about that when i have to lose it xx

If your weight gain was very rapid and sudden then it can be a symptom of pre-eclampsia, especially if your hands and feet are swelling too. If you're worried, ask your MW.

Average weight gain from about 13 weeks is one pound a week so yes absolutely fine. Quite often people seem to have a bit of a growth spurt and put on quite a bit in a few weeks at around 25 weeks for some reason (maybe when bump properly pops out).

Think recommended weight gain is about 2.5 stone if you are a healthy weight to start.

You will probably not put so much on in the last weeks as there is just no room to put food in there!

A certain amount usually comes off after the birth if you are lucky and the next few days. You probably wont actually have that much to lose if you stick to about 2.5 stone overall.

Baby weighs say 8 pounds, placenta 2 pounds, water a few pounds ish (scientific measurement ), extra blood, extra fluid, bigger boobs . Most of that sorts itself out in first couple of weeks when you pee like mad and sweat - lovely!

thanks peppapig fab!! made me feel a bit better!! i prob could have done woth losing between 7-14lb before i got pregnant, then lost loads in first few months and have put prob nearly 2 stone on altogether...a bit less than that actually...so im doing ok really, coz most of it will be baby in last few weeks now and my boobs have gone ginormous!! plus i must be retaining about a stone of water ;) maybe not a stone but a lot!!

Youre not shallow, its a worry for everyone, it can feel that your eating is out of control, Ive been a crazy eating machine since 2nd trimester

Peppa Pig is right. Just checked in pregnancy book and it says:-

Average weight gain: 26-28lbs by the time of birth is ideal and should be gradual until 3rd trimester.

and it breaks down like this:

Blood volume 2lb 15oz
Breasts 14oz
Womb 2lb 3oz
Fetus 7lb 8oz
Placenta 1lb 8oz
Amniotic Fluid 1lb 13oz
Fat 7lb 11oz
Retained water 3lbs 5oz

You should experience your most dramatic weight gain in third trimester, and yes, a lot of that is on the boobs

had forgotten about all the postnatal sweating.. thanks PP!
