best maternity/sanitary towels to stock up on?

i know there are threads on this already but i cant find one!! am 32 weeks, got a funny feeling im not gonna go to term (dont know why!!) but was thinking about packing my hospital bag ready...what sort of towels are the best for post natal bleeding and how many am i likely to need to pack for the hospital? a natural childbirth is planned this is my first and i havent got a clue what to pack!! do i need breast pads too?

Pack double the amount they say in all the baby books. when i had my son my waters broke but no contractions, i had used all the ones i had before i gave birth 2 days later. I got mine from mothercare, but that was 12 years ago so not really sure what would be the best now. You will need maternity ones for at least the first week then i moved on to super normal towels.
If you are planning to breast feed then yes a packet of breast pads are good.

i have boots ones 99p a pack. I have 3 packs to start me off. I also have tommee tippee breast pads- 3 packs of those too. Im taking a pack of each. am a first timer and i dont know if i will need the breast pads but hey best to be prepared. Hope that helps in some way. I really didnt get on with maternity towels tbh and preferred to use the Always Night with wings. A lot more comfortable. Ok, so I needed to change them every hour or so for the first day but otherwise, I found them so easy.

I would say a good 4 packs overall.

I have just stocked up on boots own brand pads. get the extra thick/ padded ones.
i bled for 6 weeks after, like a very very heavy period. so you will go through loads of them !
use old 'big' knickers too, as thongs, and 'nice' knickers will get soaked!!

Think i was changing every hour or two for the first few weeks?
I didn't get a drop of milk in, so no advice about breast pads sorry! ( mine are all for show i think)

I got the tesco ones for the first few days then as the flow slowed down I used Always ultra, only bled for 2 weeks in total and it was much lighter in second week. I found the padding on the cheaper ones made it more comfortable to sit in the beginning. They had them at the hospital so when my waters were trickling I used theirs.

I loved Tommee tippee breast pads as they soaked a lot of milk but didn't show in my bra, I used them for 12 months so that was a good thing. Didn't need them until my milk came in though, which was 4 days after birth.

i am planning to breast feed...might take in a pack of breast pads just in case...

cinnamon glad the cheap ones get a vote!! im all spent out!! might get some of those then...i have no idea what to put in my bag for the hospital!!

I like Tesco own brand maternity towels and either lansinoh or tommee tippe breast pads as they stick in your bra. I did not go through many breast pads and if feeding doesn't work out then your stuck with them but just make sure you know the nearest shop that sells your brand!
I bought about 5 packs of maternity towels and that got us through the first few days because at first you use 2 at a time.

5 packs for the first few days?? wow!! best stock up on some now!! tesco's own it is then...thank you everyone...there's such a lot to think about!!

Also didn't use maternity towels just Always super duper enormous ones with wings. Do not consider anything without wings. Tons of packs. You don't want to run out! I seem to remember even putting two in at a time when I was hoping to sleep for longer than an hour.

i used tesco or sainsbury's pads. i didn't like the boots ones as much although can't remember why! and i used sainsbury's breast pads-had boots ones and they were fine too. i remember needing far more pads than i had imagined and had to send dp out to get more when i came home! good luck.

I'm expecting dc3 and just bought 8 packs of boots ownbrand.

Ordered from boots online along with a pack of breastpds and nappies and cotton wool for the baby.And kamillosan. All came in nice big box which is sitting in the hall exactly where it arrived.

Sainsburys' pads are the best IMO (and I got to try a lot!), only £1 a pack. I went through about a pack(ish) a day for the first two weeks, so buy loads - because it is such a niche product, I found it sold out in a few shops and I had to use normal pads which where nowhere near as comfortable.

If you have stiches you will want them for comfort - even with the pads I was sitting on a duvet for a month!

Have just placed an online order for maternity pads, breast pads, more strecth mark oil, cotton wool, nipple cream.... off for a lay down to recover from the shock!

Don't stock up too much - I bought 3 packs for ds1 and after ds2 still have a whole unopened one (threw out a fair few in the packs that I did open, too). Oh, and I've never used a breast pad either - and so far I've bfed for 33 months...

I've literally just been to Tesco's and bought 3 packs of maternity pads - I figured I can always send DH out for more if necessary.

i also recommend the sainsburys ones if you have stitches as they are nice and soft. The thinner towels with wings are better for later on

Another one for the Sainsburys ones - I used to use the ones with wings on the bottom and chuck a cheap and nasty hospital one over the top for the first 2 days (v.v. heavy bleeder, c-section and fairly imobile)

After that I switched to Always nighttime with wings, as extra long and wide.

Hated anything without wings as a gush of blood when moving about or feeding would just miss the pad and pour down the leg

semichem sell pads (theyre normal sanitary ones) in a purple pack. Really soft and absorbant and cheap, I think theyre 89p for 10/12.
