tomato craving

Hello,

I am almost 6 weeks and have crazy cravings for tomato. I eat them fresh just like apples, a lot of them. When I think of them I can almost smell them in my head, it is crazy. Today we brought a giant bag of them. I did some research on line and people say that tomato craving may be iron deficiency. Does any one have this, is it a problem? I assume it is not harmful to eat so much of tomato. Any advice.

Hi
I had this
I was having them on toast a few weeks back (am 17 weeks now)
I dunno about the iron thing but if you're worried you can take some spatone and see if it goes away?

I take iron supplements & have been tested a couple of times for anemia but wasn't. I'm eating tons of tomatos , one of the few things that taste right at the moment!

I had a tomato craving, within two weeks I couldn't stand them. It was a real problem, the smell made me gag. I have "fond" memories of going to the bathroom in a restaurant where the smell of cleaning fluid allowed me to recover.
So beware!

I think you get blood tests in pregnancy for anaemia don't you? And pregnancy vits will contain some iron (take with a glass of OJ to help absorbtion).

You could try getting someone to compare redness of your conjunctivae (inside lower eyelids) - if they're very pale that's a 'quick and dirty' indication of anaemia.

In the meantime thank your lucky stars that you're craving something simple, cheap, and healthy - and don't forget to wash them before eating.
