Chickenpox question

Im 13 weeks pregnant with my first child and i was wondering if anyone knew how dangerous it is for me to be around a child who may be infected with chickenpox. I have had it already but I read that i can still carry it if im in contact with someone infected and pass it on to the baby?

I was in contact with a child with chickenpox at that stage. My GP arranged for me to have a blood test for immunity the next day and apparently if I wasn't immune then I would have had to have some sort of treatment if I had started to show symptoms. The GP phoned one of the obstetricians at the hospital for advice on this. I am not sure if this is still the same advice if you have definitely had chickenpox, but my dippy mother just couldn't remember.

My kids got chicken pox when i was 12 weeks, i went to GP who did a test to check out my immunity status. Luckily I was immune,it gave me peace of mind. I HAD had it as a child.

my DD has chicken pox and no one is concerned as I had it is a child, am 22 weeks. There is only any risk if you actually develop chicken pox and that is so unlikely if you have already had it that where I am they won't test you if you had it as a child

if you are immune ie had it as a child, you wont pass it on to the baby. if your really worried, go to your gp and ask for an immunity test.

I have just had the immunity test. Waiting for the results but the nurse said even if I am immune pregnant women should avoid CP. I asked what to do if my DS gets it, she couldn't bloody answer me though.

I spoke to my gp about this as chickenpox is going round dd class. He said not to worry if i definitely had it as a child, which I know I did, had a couple of scars for years. One of dd's friends mums got chicken pox while in the early stages of pregnancy, had various treatments at the drs and I've heard shes now fine and still pg. so it is usually treatable anyway, but I would avoid children with chicken pox if you can.

What a helpful nurse to say that! No one goes out there way to be around CP. My dd has just had it for the second time and I was 26 weeks when she first got it.
I'm not worried though as I think if I was going to catch it for the second time I would have got it before now!

Had results back. I am immune and the doc reassured me that my antibodies will pass into the placenta so the baby won't catch it. Will help them for the first few months too.
