D.I.Y bump measurements - where should I measure??

One mumsnetter suggested measuring my waistline myself and monitoring the size at home as I'd been worried about the size of my bump. I'm 18 weeks and dont seem to be showing much.

Just wondered though...where abouts is the best place to measure exactly?

If I measure at the level of my belly button obviously i get a very different figure to if I measure and inch or so above it or an inch or so below it.

Which is best? Any ideas?

it is from teh pubic bone to the top of the uterus, the fundus.. your bump should be a couple of cm or so below your belly button at 18 weeks.. the fundus should feel like a muscular ridge

i would not really recommend this, it is easy to not do it right, it is quite subjective, and if your MW is not giving you any real cause for concern about being small for dates, you are jus tgoing to drive yourself mad, and possibly make yourself more worried

how much you show is not really a good indicator of how well your pregnancy is going. i know women who've been able to wear a belt at 20 weeks pregnant, and had perfectly healthy sized babies

if you are worried , speak to MW or GP or someone who can give you proper reassurance

sorry, realise you are asking how to meaure your wasitline to get a bump measurement.. i don't think that would be accurate or helpful either
the MW measures you from top to bottom not around.

I didn't start to show at all until about 22 weeks so I really wouldn't worry yourself. Also my midwife only started doing fundus mesasurements at 28 weeks.

I'm not worried about baby's development or anything, just interested to know if my body is actually changing. My MW hasnt been measuring me at all and my next appointment with her isnt until 25 weeks which seems ages away! (seven whole weeks!)

Just wanted a quick technique to use at home to see if I'm getting bigger or not and someone on here said this was a good one to do. So not so much a bump measurement...just a waistline check.

Has no one else done this themselves then?
