Sickness

I know this must have been asked hundreds of times before but I'm feeling down in the dumps about my morning sickness. I've felt sick all day most days and throw up only 2-3 times a day. I hate throwing up and physically try to stop myself, I know who doesn't hate it?! I just feel like a complete wuss as I know women go through much worse than what I have.

I'm 10wks5d today and just want the sickness to be over! When did it end for you? The thing is I thought my sickness was coming to an end as yesterday I felt pretty much fine all day with no throwing up. Today it's back with a vengeance! Anyway I would be interested to hear how it was for you. I just need cheering up! Sorry for the moan!

I was quite sick with my 1st until 14 weeks, then it vanished. And although I felt sick with the 2nd until this point too I could avoid being sick by eating pretty much every hour! Strangely having something in my stomach helped settle it. I am now 31 weeks and have random moments of feeling a little unwell, nothing a glass of milk or piece of toast doesn't sort out.

I hope you feel better soon, it is rubbish!

Jacksmybaby · 04/06/2010 14:26

Sending you lots of sympathy. It's sh*t isn't it? I have had it all the way through (so far) with both pgs now, but it does end earlier for most people and even for me it has definitely got much less hideous by around 20 weeks. Take it easy if you can and keep sipping water. You will get through it!

p.s. Do go to your GP if you are losing lots of weight and/or struggling to keep anything (water) down at all.

MrsAbc99 · 04/06/2010 14:47

Thank you for your kind words! I just feel so pathetic, this is my 1st preg and I just keep thinking that I'm not the first person in the world to be pregnant and I should be able to cope. It just gets me down, esp when I thought it was going:-(

My body keeps changing what it will and won't accept food wise, so every time I think I've cracked it I'm sick again and have to find something else I can have! I'm finding it hard not being in control. But I know it is going to be so worth it, can't wait to see my little bundle in Dec!

Thanks for being so nice...am very new at this (pregnancy and posting)!

Jacksmybaby is right its sh*t, have you tried all the usual stuff ? ginger, peppermint tea, sucking ice cubes etc?

maybe try sea bands - they worked for me when i was first pregnant x

Poohbearsmom · 04/06/2010 15:14

Tis normal to feel rubbish the mad tiredness on top of the sickness makes it worse but you'l be through it soon! With both my boys im very lucky it died down just before the 12wk mark and im just 4 wks pg wit no.3 and have been sick a good wk already! Hope it doesnt get much worse and only lasts till 12wks aswell... can rem from my last pg just feeling sick 24hours a day finding it hard to remember what not feeling like throwing up all the time was like but only getting waves of it at the moment... Best of luck hope it eases for you soon

AllSheepareWhite · 04/06/2010 15:25

My sympathies go out to you, I had it all the way through too. Ice lollies are good if you can't keep water down, ginger good too (you can boil ginger in water then cool and freeze into ginger ice lollies/ice cubes. I also found that too much animal protein set me off in the early stages so ate lots of veggies and veg stews with beans for protein (in the good times) and that seemed to help. Try keeping some salty savoury dry snack i.e. breadsticks by your bed and eat as soon as you wake then wait half hour before getting up if mornings really bad, although I used to have it all night at first so every wee was accompanied by throwing up. It is so worth it though when you feel the first kick, hear the heartbeat on the monitor and hold your bub in your arms.

AllSheepareWhite · 04/06/2010 15:29

PS they do say that sickness is a sign of a healthy pregnancy as means good levels of hormones.

japhrimel · 04/06/2010 15:29

I was feeling really ill too but it's eased off this week, thankfully. I'm 12 weeks on Sunday.

leepod · 04/06/2010 17:52

So pleased to hear that japhrimel! First trimester already almost done

WalkTheDog · 04/06/2010 18:00

Hope you feel better soon.

I've not been sick quite so often, but feeling sick all the time - until today (probably 10wks). What I have found helps are

tinned soups
oatcakes
ginger biscuits
polos
strawberry milk

all eaten in small amounts, slowly, but very often.

PixieCake · 04/06/2010 18:05

I was pretty sick from about week 3 (which everyone said we too early, but that's how it was). The last time I threw up was on the way home from my 12 week scan. Then it vanished. I found ginger ale really helped, and bread and cheese.
Good luck, I hope yours eases off.

MrsAbc99 · 04/06/2010 21:15

Thanks for your replies. I am seriously hoping I am not one that has it the whole way through..but we'll see how it goes. It's just nice to hear from people who've been through the same. I'm lucky my OH and work are very supportive.

Yep its rubbish. Every pregnancy is different I'm told (I'm preg with my first.) So fingers crossed, your sickness will stop overnight Don't beat yourself up. Don't think anyone realises how bad it is unless they've been through it.

The docs can help with anti-sickness meds and if you can't keep these down, they can give you some which disolve on your gum. For me, they didn't cure it completely, but reduced the number of times I hurled to a manageable level.

I know what you mean about your body changing what it will accept. Makes you scared to eat because you're convinced you'll just chuck it up I did find that it was worse if I was hungry though so try to keep nibbling if you can.

Some things that helped me:

  • McDonalds fries (who knows?!!)
  • Lemon sorbet or moose
  • Fizzy drinks rather than flat
  • Cereal bars

Good luck & congratulations.x.

luckykitty · 10/06/2010 20:49

Ladies whats going on?! I had a dating scan, Im 10 weeks gone and only felt a bit ill until today when ive felt like im quite litterally going to die. Ive never felt to ill in my life, dizzy, wobbly, sicky but wasnt actually sick even though i spent a good 40 minutes at work slumped infront of the loo. Im less than impressed! Any ideas? Ive tried the sea bands for what I though was illness before but today has totally wiped me out and it makes me really sad and distressed! I know I sound like a whining mare but this is my first pregnancy, i HATE being sick to the point i actually have some weird fear of it and my partner is away for the next few days Help me!! thank you x x

Jacksmybaby · 10/06/2010 21:07

Hi kitty if it came on very suddenly and is also accompanied by generally feeling really unwell (hot, dizzy, woozy?) it's possibly something else on top of MS e.g. a kidney infection, which can cause nausea plus fever (I had one a few weeks ago - nasty) or flu.

Take some paracetamol if you think you have a fever. And go to your GP in the morning if you're not feeling any better.

berrycravings · 10/06/2010 21:15

Hi luckykitty poor you, that does not sound nice at all.
I'm afraid this has been how I have been feeling since week 8 although I am actually sick as well. I find the feeling sick worse than the being sick. I find eating helps the nausea, and if I can eat no more I have found sweets like chewits really work for me!

I think the hormones make it all feel alot worse too, I cry every morning as I'm sick and feel very sorry for myself, but then fine a few minutes later I guess this is one of the joys of pregnancy!

Just remember you're not alone and I hope you find something that works for you.

luckykitty · 11/06/2010 11:28

Hi lovely people
I slept forever and I feel better today just totally knackered! Ive gone back to feeling like i have normal MS (wooooo!) nearly had a nervous breakdown as I had no bread this morning but all is back to vaguely normal again now - thanks so much for your advice Jacksmybaby and berrycravings I don't feel actually ill but if I do i'll get myself of to the docs.
Thanks again so much, hope youre both doing ok x x x

Jacksmybaby · 11/06/2010 11:45
