Nagging worries re no sickness & heartbeat

Hello,

I had some bleeding at 5 weeks, bawled my eyes out and feared the worst; had an inconclusive scan (too early), but thankfully, after a worrying fortnight's wait, went back for another scan yesterday and they found a heartbeat - so relieved!! Stilll feel all these nagging worries though - they dated it yesterday at 7wks 2days but I don't have any morning sickness or any symptoms, really, apart from slightly sore boobs. Is this a cause for any concern? Also, the sonographer said the heartbeat was around 170beats per minute - reading other threads this seems quite high - is this normal?

Sorry, I know this is blatant reassurance-seeking, and I know nobody can tell me for sure everything's goign to be fine, but I'm so worried about jinxing it I haven't told anyone (apart from DH) so don't have anyone to ask and don't know what happens next, haven't been assigned a midwife and don't have any further appointments. So any thoughts welcome.

Thanks for reading,

T

170bpm is normal as your baby is still a tiny fetus- the bigger your baby grows, the heart rate will slow down and towards the end of pregnancy it will be 120-160.

It sounds like all is fine - seeing the heart beat at 7 weeks is a good sign.

The bleeding you experienced could just have been breakthrough bleeding.

As you know there are no guarantees but at this stage there doesn't seem anything to worry about - all women experience different pregnancy symptoms.

Phone your GP and ask when will you be assigned a midwife.

Thanks very much, belgo. That's very helpful info, didn't know that about the heartbeat. Will chase up the GP about a midwife appointment.

Thank you!

just to reassure you I haven't had any sickness at all and am now 12 weeks and had a scan at 9 where I saw the heartbeat. I think we are all told we are meant to have morning sickness and that worries those of us who don't.

Congratulations on your pregnancy

It's very early still, so although I know what it's like to desperately want to get symptoms, try to enjoy a bit more time without sickness & fatigue. Not everyone gets pregnancy sickness anyway - you may be a lucky one and sail through without it!

The info below was posted on another site:

"Once a gestational sac has been documented on ultrasonographic scanning, subsequent loss of viability in the embryo will occur in 11.5% of pregnancies. After the embryo attains a CRL of 5 mm, the probability of subsequent loss falls to 7.2%. The loss rate drops rapidly thereafter to 3.3% for embryos with a CRL of 6 mm to 10 mm and to 0.5% for embryos with a CRL of 10 mm or more (ie, 5 weeks postovulation or 7 weeks after the last menstrual period)."

Do you know how big the CRL was at your scan? I know mine was 14.5mm at about 7+5, so I would think you'd be more than 10mm.

Good stats - thanks

Thanks DuelingFanjo, I know it's probably silly but I find myself yearning for morning sickness just so I feel more pregnant. Hopefully these words come back to bite me on the arse at some point!

Japhrimel, that's really, really useful, thank you. I understood most things on the letter they gave me after the scan and remember CRL being on there but can't remember the measurement, though I do seem to remember 11mm being on the letter so hopefully that refers to that. I'll check as soon as I get home tonight because that would be very reassuring if that's the case. I don't know why I didn't google it when I got home, but I was a bit weepy and overcome so I guess it went out of my head to check the detail!

Thanks again ladies, this place is invaluable to a clueless first-timer like me!
