Another boring question about Omega and fish oils

Hi all

I'm confused. I know to take Omega 3 and 6 oils but almost every good make contains fish oils, which I believe is controversial.

What's the danger in taking fish oils and am I better off getting the oil from 2 x portion of oily fish a week and finding a vegan Omega oil product? I do worry about development problems and fish etc

Thanks

Hi, Im 33+3 and have been taking omega 3 tablets daily sine around 15 weeks.
Didnt really think anything bad would come of it, just looked at ingrediants and says fish oil concentrate.

I dont know where the tablets are from as my dad bought them but they look like they are just from a supermarket.

Will be interested to see other peoples replies to this question too.

Helloo- Pregnacare and sanatogen sell pregnancy vitamins with extra fish oil capsules that are obviously safe. I probably wouldn't take normal cod liver oil capsules- but then again, I'm allergic to cod anyway. However, these ones are fine. I did look for some others, but as none said what the fish oil actually was, I couldn't risk it, but thats just my wierdo body. So, anyway, ones sold by companies targetting pregnant ladies will be safe.

I've been taking the pregnacare tablets with omega see [[http://www.vitabiotics.com/pregnacare/pregnacareplus_productinfo.aspx here}}. I've taken the view that as this is a specific pregnancy supplement from a reputable company it will be fine. You'll see though on the link that they exclude oil from certain fish.

Hi there

Personally I would go with including the fish and seafood in your diet to get your omega 3 intake - the bonus being that there's lots of other useful vitamins and minerals in fish and shellfish - plus it's tasty to eat and is a healthy source of protein!

Not sure if you've seen the news that's just out this weekwww.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/7782834/Pregnant-women-should-be-allowed-to-eat-more-fish.html - both the FSA (UK) and FDA (US) are being lobbied to increase their recommendations on eating seafood while pregnant as respected scientists and nutritionists are worried that women are being scared away from getting these vital nutrients - so important for the development of the baby. The many benefits of eating seafood outweigh the very small risks in relation to mercury etc.

Good sources of omega 3 from seafood can be found on the FSA's website here.

Hope this helps!
