This is my second pregnancy. First time round I had a scare early on which meant I got a six week and seven week scan. It was very reassuring.

I am seven weeks now and realised I still have anohter five weeks to wait until I get my scan. I fear I may go demented!

I got a private one! Worth every penny.

feels like forever, but i found out i was pregnant at 8 weeks so waiting was less for me, but suddenly im at 25 weeks and wondering where all the time went?

FourEyesGood · 01/06/2010 20:28

I was also desperate for my scan day to come around, but refused to go private, just because I couldn't bring myself to do it. I love the NHS too much!
The days pass really slowly when you're waiting for reassurance, but you do get there eventually.

chocolatestar · 01/06/2010 20:39

I wish I could afford one of those!

going private is really the only option, unless you can convince your GP or EPU to scan you earlier.
In my area, it's 13 weeks they scan you, so even longer, ugh!

Meglet · 01/06/2010 22:22

I went for a private scan at 8 weeks when I was pg with DD, cost £100 at the local private hospital but worth it. I'd previously had a mc at 6 weeks so was more worried than during my first pregnancy.

plan lots of nice things to do to make the time go quicker

mattsmama · 01/06/2010 22:38

With my first pregnancy I had a scan at 6 weeks and everything was fine. This time I had one at 6 weeks (as ectopic was suspected and I've had previous miscarriage) and only a gestational sac was seen. I am now waiting for second scan to assess the viability of this pregnancy and the agony of waiting two weeks is agony. Therefore in this instance the early scan has only served to make me MEGA ANXIOUS!! The sonographer did say thats why they ususally wait until 12 weeks for any first scans (unless medical reasons implicate an earlier scan) as often earlier scans show different things for different people. Every pregnancy is different. I can understand how the waiting is probably driving you to distraction but early scans can be a bit of a minefield in my experience!!

japhrimel · 02/06/2010 08:41

I had a private 8 week scan as I was super nervous because of previous losses and my local EPAU will only scan if you've had bleeding or have had 3 MCs in a row previously.

After that, I have to say the sickness has made the wait easier (or should that be harder). I nearly booked another private scan at one point but was so sick that day I forgot.

websticks · 02/06/2010 15:33

I have just got my first scan date through and i will be 13 wks and 5 days. i have another 3 weeks to wait and its driving me mad!

worriedmum2b10 · 02/06/2010 15:50

feels like only yesterday i had my 12 wks scan but it was 8 weeks ago and now got my 20wk scan next week and cant wait. when it comes to your 12wk u will think its gone really fast

honeymoonmum · 02/06/2010 16:05

I'm afraid pregnancy is all about waiting!!!! I'm 37 weeks and WAITING for baby to come-patience is a virtue!!!!!!! It will come....

berrycravings · 02/06/2010 19:33

I'm waiting for my 12 week scan too. I have found the time has started to speed up now (nearing 10wks). I've booked a week off next week which I have been looking forward to for a few weeks, that has helped speed up the wait.

LeoniPoni · 02/06/2010 19:56

Hahaha honeymoonmum I hear ya! I'm 38 weeks on Friday and I'm pulling my hair out!

I was super excited for my 12 week scan and was counting down the days! All you can do, if you don't want to go private is try and fill your time with other things! I had horrendous morning sickness to take my mind off it (lucky me!), but a friend of mine dedicated her first trimester to preparing her skin (lots of oily baths and and getting her DH to rub cream in for all over massages!) and learning to knit!

You'll have that LO in your arms before you know it!

chocolatestar · 02/06/2010 21:25

I am really worried that I won't get it before I go on holiday. I know I won't enjoy that break if I haven't had that scan and I won't be able to put it out of my head because my sister in law who I am going with is also preganat - about 7 weeks ahead of me. Really hoping the appointment comes through before I go away.

There is a lot of waiting... for the bfp, the first scan, the odds to improve at 12 weeks, the 20 week scan, 24week viaility etc. It's an excercise in patience - I've found out I am much less patient than I thought and much more anxious. Hang in there and congratulations.

vmcd28 · 03/06/2010 10:09

Chocolatestar, when my scan date came in, it didn't suit, so I phoned to change it. They didn't even ask why - they changed the appt, no questions asked
