Three due dates, which to go by??

My LMP was 20th March, which I calculated would make me due (as did my GP) on 25th December . I had an early scan which puts me at 23rd December, and the midwife has said it will be 27th December. I know it doesn't REALLY matter, as it will come when it is ready, but it was kind if cool having Christmas Day as my due date! Which date should I take as the actual due date ( I'm a bit anal I guess!!) Thanks for any help! PS Cycle of 28 days!

Go for the one according to lmp. It's exactly the same as my dates with DS1. He was 3 days early and arrived on 22 December. So, have Christmas Day in your mind but baby might come on 23rd or 27th or any other time (s)he feels like it really. Oh, and congratulations, a Christmas baby is lovely and you have a great excuse to do sod all cooking etc.

i would go with yours - you know when your cycle is. I went with mine all the way through on my first (9th Dec), yet the scan dated me as 15th Dec. He came out on 17th, but I was told that the placenta was getting to the "past it " stage, and his skin was peeling. PLUS I knew the exact date i concieved, as it was the only day we didn't use a condom . The midwives said he looked about 2 weeks overcooked (9 days over to my due date)

Sorry, rambling!
Go with your date!

BertieBotts · 01/06/2010 15:48

Go with the latest, then you are less likely to go overdue and be hassled with induction

Although having said that I would have thought they'd take the scan date as the most accurate.

RedOnHerHead · 01/06/2010 15:48

my maths is terrible - 8 days over to MY due date not 9 - the reason i keep thinking it is 9 is because he was only 38 minutes away from being 9 days late!

Here, the go by the a dating scan which is done at 12 weeks, not sure if it is the same everywhere, but that is the date on my notes and the date the midwife and hospital are using. Think it was 6 days under my LMP date.

DomesticG0ddess · 01/06/2010 16:09

How far gone were you when you had your scan? After about 9 weeks the scans are supposed to be really accurate? So I would go with that in my head, but agree with Bertie. It's a bit odd that your midwife is giving you a different date to that told to you at your scan/gp - why would she think it would be a different date?? Anyway, your 12 week scan will give you the most accurate date.

vmcd28 · 01/06/2010 16:22

My midwife said they always use the 12/13week scan to give you a due date - the early ones are not "official" and are purely for reassurance.

But why your MW gave you a random date is anyone's guess!!

Thanks everyone will wait for my 12 week scan on the 16th, and see what they say!!

I am in exactly the same situation. My LMP was 20th of March, so I calculated my EDD as Christmas Day. GP has already calculated it as Christmas Eve instead but I haven't had a booking in appointment yet (still chasing on that one).

I do have my scan appointment though - on the 14th - so will see what they say there. This is also my second, with my first they brought forward my EDD by 6 days even though I was sure about my dates. My son was then 12 days late so I'm not sure they were right.

How old is your first?

MumNWLondon · 01/06/2010 17:21

Go with latest - helps you to manage expectations. Very frw babies come on EDD anyway. I had 3 dates and DS2 came 2 days before the earliest date.

12 week scans only accurate to nearest week. earlier scans more accurate.

I already have 5 year old twin girls, but they were 6 weeks early!! So thats no indication either!!
