If you're booked in for a c section, how far along will you be on that date?

Just wondering as I'll be having one, and I know they like 39 weeks but that will be a saturday, so do you think they'll do it at 38 plus something or 39 plus something?

I'll find out in a couple of weeks but untill then I've got nothing better to do than think about it!

Mine is booked for 38+6, apparently the optimal time is 39 weeks. Depends when they have a spare slot in the diary but I would push for 39+ if you didn't go early last time. Less chance of breathing problems for the baby.

I've had 2 babies at 38+5 so I'm really really hoping they'll agree to a 38plus date.

Also depends on the reason. I was booked for a 36 week induction from 24 weeks, when the week came DC4 was transverse but for us there was no way beyond 36 weeks. We had a 36 week planned section thanks to a fabulous team and aside from being little (but not tiny) we had no problems

Mine was 38 + 2. I think that's standard for placenta previa.

Jacksmybaby · 30/05/2010 19:00

mrsm I think it would depend on the reason but unless there is a good reason to do it earlier they prefer not to do it before 39 wks so I would think they would go for 39+ rather than 38+.

nymphadora · 31/05/2010 09:15

I was told usually 39+? And they do set days for consultants which mine would be 39.6 or 38.6 my consultant said that it would usually have to be39.6 but they won't risk that with me.

is it your 1st c section? I am having one on June 14th, baby will be 38.5. My DD was born by c section at 38 wks and was perfect. My doctor recommends always between 38 and 39 weeks but can depend on reason for c section. He also says if 2nd or 3rd then needs to be done earlier, not sure why but assuming to reduce chances of you going into labour before.

39 weeks is the preferred date. Mine was pencilled in for 39 weeks.

Lovethesea · 31/05/2010 13:16

Mine is booked for 39 weeks exactly.

withorwithoutyou · 31/05/2010 13:20

Mine is also booked for 39 weeks exactly, which is a week day. They don't do them at my hospital at the weekend.

I believe the risk of breathing difficulties is greatly reduced if they can hold out til 39 weeks to deliver.

mazzystartled · 31/05/2010 13:26

it's going to depend on the reason for the section, any other medical reasons in play, the availability of a theatre slot, and probably - to a degree - your personal preference.

whilst 39+ is now the recommendation, I was recently being offered 38+ slots at my local 5* foundation hospital (had a vbac in the end) but

posieparker · 31/05/2010 13:27

It should be 39 weeks as anything sooner is greater risk for the baby's respiratory system. All mine were 39 or 39+1/2 days.

Tobermory · 31/05/2010 13:38

I am booked in for a section tomorrow , my second, when I will be 39+2.
Bank holiday today otherwise they would have booked me in at 39+1
