No significance. You'll yo-yo back and forth a few times probably. Fundus height depends on who's measuring, where the baby is sitting that day, planetary alignment... you get my drift. Several centimetres off could be an issue, but not 1 cm.

oh, so he's not gonna be early then

most MWs seem to agree that 2cm either way is still considered normal. If more than 2cm you may be sent for a growth scan but they can be pretty inaccurate too. I measured 2cm over each week from 28w. Had a scan at 38w and baby measured 7lb 5oz and was considered to be 'normal' sized. Had ELCS at 40w5 and had 11 lb 1oz baby so scans and tape measure didn't predict that one!
Don't want to scare you though. I measured big for DD1 as well and she was only 8lb 11

Neither baby size nor fundus height can predict if your little peanut will be early or not. He may very well be. Remember that term is 37 to 41 weeks so lots of wiggle room.

I was always 2cm ahead of dates with DD - she was born 1 week late weighing a slender 7lb 5.

This time I have yo-yo'd - sometimes 2cm over, sometimes 1cm under, and at my last appointment at 38+3 I measured 38.5 cm, so bang on for once! I think it's just a guide, as long as you're not way too big or too small it's fine.

thank you everyone...i was actually indulging in a bit of wishful thinking!! get a bit fed up and hot and bothered in the heat and all day teaching 5-6 year olds!! nevermind, maybe he'll be a little bit early, u never know!! xxx

I'm also 31 weeks and my measurements have been all over the place:

25 weeks - 29cm
26 weeks - 26cm
28 weeks - 28.5cm

Think it's very much hit and miss to be honest and just used as a rough guide/indicator of potential slow or fast growth.

Hope you have a relaxing weekend to recover from the teaching - can't be much fun in the heat
