Position of placenta!

Hi,

I had my 20 week scan yesterday (all is fine!! Yey!!) and was asked if I had felt the baby move yet, I said not really but have felt the odd thing that I am not sure, but think I have talked myself into thinking this is the baby and not gas/food etc!! She did my scan and said that my placenta is front-lying (Anterior??) and that will be why I haven't felt anything, because the baby has that extra layer of padding to kick through before I can feel it! She says that I will feel the baby in time! However, I was talking to someone about this today and they said their placenta was in the same place and they NEVER felt the baby, not even in late stages of pregnancy!! Surely this can't be true?! I am desperate to feel my baby, especially as its my first! Anyone out there with the same who HAS felt the baby?

I had an anterior placenta with ds2. It was definitely later that I felt him for certain (probably about 18 weeks with ds1, and 22/23 weeks with ds2, but I definitely felt his movements. Towards the end, it felt no different to ds1.

Im 22 weeks and I also have an anterior placenta, I can guarantee you that you will feel your baby. I had the same worry as you but I started feeling my baby last week. I dont think you have a long wait until you start feeling your baby. Watch out for those bubbles in your tummy! xx

I have an anterior placenta too, and wasn't feeling movement by 20 weeks but did soon after. 30 weeks now and feeling very vigorous movements!

19 weeks for me with an anterior, and some stonking kicks by 23 weeks

Had the same with both my pregnancies and was grateful at the end they had the extra layer to get through! Also had a comedy moment with an elbow or something totally distorting my belly

Hi - another one to reassure you here. I was told the same thing as you when I went for my 20 wk scan - I had felt flutters but nothing more (unlike dd who I had felt kicking from about 16 weeks) - I do get movements now (22 weeks) but they are not as strong yet but have no doubt that they will. Hubby felt the first one yesterday!

hi, I too have an anterior palcenta, and felt only intermitent movement (slight and erratic)from about 26 weeks until about 29 weeks. Even now, at 37 weeks, I feel very little, but I can see my stomach constantly moving around everywhere, so I only have to look down to know all is well with little one!

My midwife did say that there are lots of people who feel very, very little, particularly if its your first, your placenta is anterior, and you have moderately strong tummy muscles. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! I too was really really dissapointed, but looking back, could have saved myself a lot of worry and stress if I had just accepted what the midwife told me! Don't spoil the next few weeks of your pregnancy obsessing about not feeling the baby like I did!

I'm sitting here, 32 weeks pregnant, anterior placenta, and am currently getting a good kicking!

I'm 37 weeks with an anterior placenta this time (second pregnancy). Felt small movements from 19 weeks and then much bigger kicks later on. Now it's lots of wriggles and bulges as he's run out of space!

Also depends which way they are kicking - if it's towards your back you won't feel it for a while, but at your stage the bean will be turning all over the place and I am sure you will feel things soon.

I noticed it most when resting with feet up having had a cold drink of water or something similar - enjoy!

I'm 23 weeks with number 3 and I've got an anterior placenta.

I've only been feeling movements for the last couple of weeks. Hadn't felt much before my 20 week scan, but baby actually kicked the scan probe off at one point during the scan!

I feel most of my movements when I'm in bed or sat down at the end of the day. They feel a bit different to DC1 and 2, but I'm sure that will change in the coming weeks!

(Sorry to hijack your post a little NoTeaforMe), but Chestnut, your post is VERY reassuring to me!

My placenta is anterior (but not low), this is my first and have been totally stressing out about the fact that I don't think I am feeling the baby yet. I feel the odd ticklish "pop" inside (even actually against my bladder I think - a very odd feeling!) which I think feels different to wind, but I may be kidding myself as I am a bit desparate...

I am now 22+4, so have been worrying a lOT but its good to know that this is still normal!!!

legallyblond - glad to be of help! As I said before, please don't copy me and ruin what should be a lovely time! I was obsessed about not feeling the baby move; no ammount of reassurance from the midwife helped (and I rang them about it - a lot!!) Honestly,whilst you should always feel you can pop and see them for reassurance (have a listen to the heartbeat) hang in there for a few more weeks if you can.

As I say, it was VERY late before I felt anything regular; the key is getting to know your body and your baby. I still dont have these ten daily movements (not that i feel, but that I can defintely see if I have the time to stop and watch!)but the midwife said that is ok, becuase it's normal for me! I think the only time to worry is when you are used to having regular movements and they then decrease/stop.

However, I hope you are a little more lucky than me, and start to feel those movements regularly soon!

Another one here with an anterior placenta. Hadnt felt anything at my 20 week scan but I have been getting a good kicking from about 23 weeks onwards (am 27 weeks now)- have taken to talking to my belly when alone saying "stop kicking me"!!! I think different people will have different ideas as to what is late - providing baby is all fine on the scan you dont need to worry

Thanks Helena - yes, all was fine on the scan (baby was apparently very active!) so I am trying to contan my anxiety and enjoy the fact that this stage of the pregnancy is actually rather fun - I have a noticable bump, I don't feel sick, I am not too tired and backache is minimal so far!

(But come on baby... kick!!!)

I have anterior placenta. im 25 weeks and she's constantly thumping around. im actually carrying an elephant.

Hi, I'm yet to have my 20 week scan, I'm 19 weeks and have felt flutters very low down or at the side but nothing in the middle and I'm fairly certain they're going to find it's anterier. I felt my other two move quite a lot from 15 weeks.
When I lie in the bath I can see my tummy moving but I can't feel a thing.
9 days to find out for sure

Another one here with anterior placents.
35 weeks now and do feel plenty of movement but it was later than with my other 2 and even now still have a blank spot where I feel little to no movement but I do feel movement up high in mt rib area now where babies feet are.

Count yourself lucky! Mine was anterior last time and this time it's posterior. And some of the kicks really really hurt! I felt nothing like this amount first time around and I think I preferred it that way!

Thanks so much for all the replies, I THINK I have felt the odd fluttering the last couple of days but am not sure if I'm imagining it / convincing myself it's the baby!! I really hope I follow most of you and do feel the baby soon, or at least at some point!
Chestnut good advice, I will try not to worry and obssess! I was / am looking forward to feeling the baby lots so I know everything is ok in there! Think that it may make me worry if I can't feel it?!
