Hi all
Im 18 weeks pregnant & Im not putting on weight, I lost nearly a stone in my first 12 weeks coz I was really ill, I'v put that bak on but now its stopped, I'm a big girl anyway but I'm worried that my baby is not growing.
Has or is anyone going throught the same thing?

Your weight isn't a good indicator of how much the baby is growing, which is why they don't bother weighing us at every appointment now. I wouldn't worry too much - the fact that you lost weight because of being ill is going to throw your weigh gain out of whack. I haven't gained anything in 12 weeks despite eating almost contantly as its the only thing that helps my sickness.

Can you ask your MW if you're concerned?

I have the same and have expressed my concerns to both the doctor and the sonographer (I also struggle to eat much due to Hyperemesis) and they have both almost laughed at me! Apparently the baby takes all it wants and needs and leaves you with the remainder so the 1 guarantee is that the baby will be fine even though you may feel like poo! Had my 20 week scan and sure enough baby is exactly as it should be. I have already lost a dress size this pregnancy and no one is worried so you shouldn't worry either

I have a friend who only recovered to her pre-pregnancy weight at about 6 months; it worked out fine as she was also too heavy to start, too. After the baby was born she had 2.5 years of being svelte, she loved it!!

Dont worry, baby will be getting all they need. Im 37 weeks on saturday. At my 35 week check I was weighed and I am exactly the same weight I was at my booking in appointment, mostly down to Hypremesis, but according to her scan Im still expecting and 8 1/2 pounder. Just been put back from consultant care to midwife care as there not worried anymore.

If your overly concerned I would talk to midwife

[total hijak]
LadyEmmaLou - get over to the Frolicker Grads thread and tell us how you are getting on!!

I lost about a stone initially and am only just over my prepregnancy weight.

Remember that a baby is designed to be a good little parasite and to take all the goodness and nutrients from you. You'll just get what is left over.

Jacksmybaby · 27/05/2010 15:28

KELS the baby will be just fine.

If it's any consolation think about the possible up-side: having lost a stone in the first 4 mths when I was pg with DS, after I had him I dropped back down to this new, lower weight fairly naturally within less than a year - so it could be a good thing in the long run!

(Not that I would wish the hideousness of bad N&V on anyone but you have to look at the positives!)
