Should I sit tight or visit the doc/hospital?

Just wondering if anyone could give me advice?

Currently 15+4 weeks pregnant with my first

I have a large cyst on my left ovary which is about 8cm in diameter. The docs said they would leave it alone and not bring me in for surgery to remove it as long as I don't have any pain. They said if I experience pain on the left side, to come into labour ward.

For the last 24 hours I've been having quite painful period type pains, but not to the left hand side, just all over. I did read that period type pains are common at 15 weeks as the womb stretches out, but this is now 24 hours and is the kind of pain I'd take painkillers for (although obviously I haven't)

I'm just not sure if this still counts as normal 'stretching pain' or whether I should get it checked - I don't want to waste the doctor's time and miss work if it's completely normal!

What would you do? x

give the labour ward a call and ask them. they'll probably want to ultrasound to see what's going on?

don't sit at home and suffer - the stress will only make you feel worse - go and put your mind at rest.

Yep, definitely give the labour ward a ring. You'll only worry otherwise.

Also, you can take paracetamol in pregnancy.

Take some paracetamol and call them. Best to get it checked out.

I would call the labour ward or the midwife and explain the pains etc, always best to get checked and put your mind at rest. You are never wasting people's time as your concerns are genuine to you and thats what matters.

yeah get it checked out, cant hurt to ask with these things, and with what you already have, its worth checking to see if its the normal type stretching pain, but it sounds more severe so derf worth checking.

Thanks everyone for your advice this morning. I ended up calling my best friend's Mum as she is a post-natal health visitor and she assured me I could have up to 48 hours of 'period type pain' at a time during weeks 15 & 16 as the uterus suddenly stretches out. She said to take it easy, but not go to the doc unless there was any blood. And what do you know, this afternoon it just stopped.

I had an 8cm cyst on my right ovary when pregnant, gave me pain, but I was told if I got severe i.e. pain rolling on the floor, unable to breath pain to call ambulance and go straight in as it was likely to be a twisted. I was told if I could manage pain then it would be fine.
Also I am currently 17 weeks with another and no cyst this time, but I had similar pain to what you describe at about 15 weeks, I wouldn't worry to much.

If your consultant is anything like mine, he will watch the cyst throughout scans, and will get you back in at 6weeks post birth for another scan to check on cyst then (mine was gone thought to have burst in labour).
