Hi Ladies,
Currently 10+3 with no. 4, 35 yrs old, and been quite sicky and craving fizzy sweet drinks, esp Lucozade.
Had a couple of large glasses yesterday, but today, when I went out for lunch (I'd had a bowl of cereal for brekkie) I got the shakes! Very weird!
Didn't think much of it at the time, but wondering whether it might be a slight sugar worry? No history of diabetes, gestational or otherwise, but I am 5 ft and 14 st 5 lb, BMI enormous!
Whatd'ya think?

Could be low blood sugar? If you've been drinking quite a lot of high sugar drinks you'll send your blood sugar high quite quickly, then it'll dip down suddenly, which can cause shakes, headaches and nausea. The ceeral is good, it releases energy slowly - assuming its not a high sugar variety. Perhaps mention it to your midwife though, she could check you out. Signs of gestational diabetes developing include tiredness and thirst, so if you're feeling very thirsty you should probably get checked out. Your midwife will, probably for the millionth time this pregnancy, ask you to wee in a pot, and test your wee for glucose. If its present in your wee you'll have an oral glucose tolerance test next. You say your BMI is high - If your BMI is over 35 then this test is advised anyway. Don't worry to much, just take it easy on the high sugar drinks. Good luck, hope everything's ok... At least you don't have a craving for oranges! Oh god, I've eaten 22 today and my tummy is in a terrible state! oops...

Blimey Hest, that's a lot of bloody oranges! I think my craving is changing to orange juice though, which is at least slightly healthier than lucozade! Thanks for the tips though - I did have a gtt last time, which thankfully came back negative, but will start watching the sugary-drinks I think!

When I was pregnant with DS I could have drank gallons of coke and lucozade! I used to wake up during the night craving fizzy drinks and often felt dizzy and light-headed.

My BMI was 25-26, they checked my blood but everything was fine.

It could "just" be reactive hypoglycaamia, where your blood sugar crashes after having something sweet. Your body can also get used to having glucose, so Lucozade is almost addictive. You don't want to get on that slippery slope though, as it's hard to get off and you end up with ruined teeth and excess weight to shift (been there, done that, but that was while ill, not pregnant).
