Pretty confident that I'm carrying twins

I already have two sons and never thought about twins during my life but for some odd reason this pregnancy a week before we found out we were expecting something told me to pray on twins then that Sunday at 4weeks pregnant we had a positive test. Now I'm really convinced that I am carrying twins. I have extreme hunger pains all day and night that never go away even after stuffing my face. My first appointment is tomorrow and I will be 5weeks. I'm praying that they can give me an us so that I can find out and know for sure. I really don't have any other strong symptoms just a little dizzy and light headed every once in awhile. Am I Crazy to think its twins or has anyone else felt this?

I think you need to be realistic. The chances that you are pregnant with twins are minimal. If you are, that's great, congratulations, but why raise your hopes so high just to have them dashed, based on a 'feeling'?

ShowOfHands · 23/05/2010 19:57

They probably won't scan you at 5 weeks. Nowt to see usually, even if it is twins.

I had v strong symptoms from a few days post ovulation, showed v early etc, singleton pregnancy.

HappyAsASandboy · 23/05/2010 20:16

Just to add to the confusion, I had barely any symptons in early pregnancy and found out it's twins at my 12 week scan. I really don't think you can tell singleton vs twins from sympton spotting as every pregnancy is different.

MrsSenior · 23/05/2010 20:25

Yeah I agree I dont think they will give you a scan. Wondering if you are pregnant with twins isn't really a reason for doing an early scan and like others hve said 5 weeks is too early to see anything to be sure anyway.

I would just wait and see if I were you, if its twins great, if not that's great too!!

Congratulations either way!!
xx

Now sure if your in the UK and if its NHS but if it is you will only be offered a scan if you have had previous problems or you are bleeding this time around also 5 weeks would be to early for them to tell if you had a viable twin pregnancy because it is quite common at that stay for there to be two sacks - A heart beat doesnt show up until 6 weeks at the earliest.

Also there are quite a few threads on this you will be surprise how many women convince themselves they are having twins!

goodlifemummy · 23/05/2010 20:43

I had twins, but had no pregnancy symptoms until my 12 week scan. BUT, I always knew even from when I was a little girl, that I would have twins.....just a feeling! This time round I am only carrying one, and no symptoms, had an early scan to confirm just one! Best of Luck with whichever blessing you get!

Thank yall! I will def post as soon as I find out! I'm excited about being pregnant either way so it doesn't really matter but twins would be awesome!

So, is it twins??????

AxisofEvil · 08/07/2010 15:02

FWIW I had a scan at 6 weeks privately due to bleeding and they saw 1, went back at 7 weeks and they saw 2. So its unlikely they will be able to confirm twins even if there.

But can I say though that having twins does come with substantially increased risks, particularly if they are identical. Don't get me wrong, I'll do anything to get my 2 safely to the end but its not just a question of a singleton pregnancy plus another half stone.

lucybrad · 08/07/2010 15:21

If you look at the other antenatal treads there are always people on there that convince themselves they are having twins - because they are sicker, feel bigger, just have a feeling. Its usually the ones that are not expecting it that have them!

BrownPaperandString · 08/07/2010 19:55

oh I wonder how that happened do you know? How they only saw one at 6 weeks but 2 at 7 weeks?

mamma4 · 09/07/2010 00:05

You could be as I had a slight feeling. The week before my 12 wk scan I said to my mum that i was sure it was twins although i didnt have a bump. Im not sure why I thought this as I had no morning sickness at all and didnt start showin till 20 weeks. At the 12 week scan I said oh at least theres only 1 and the sonographer loked at me funny and said no theres 2! I also knew that they would be boys as I did with my other two that are both boys aswell.

AxisofEvil · 09/07/2010 11:16

brown paper - they were only expecting to see 1 and at that stage they are v small. One may have been behind the other. bear in mind that 6 weeks is v early and you might not be able to pick up anything at that stage.

BrownPaperandString · 09/07/2010 14:21

Ah ok. I was a bit nervouse because I had a scan at 6 weeks and all fine, heartbeat etc and they said just one. I thought I was safe until I read your post!

booyhoo · 09/07/2010 14:27

hope can make you 'feel' things and interpret them to suit what you want. sorry but i dont think you can know at that stage you are having twins.

5DollarShake · 09/07/2010 14:34

I think the fact that this is a thread from May and the OP hasn't been back to say 'told you so' means it isn't twins!

Hopefully she is having a happy and healthy pregnancy, though.

booyhoo · 09/07/2010 14:44

gosh, i didn't even realise it was an old thread.
