Hi ladies,

I thought I would weigh myself this morning just to see how much I had gained, and I have actually lost 6lbs than when I was first weighed at 8 weeks. Thats nearly a pound a week! Is this normal...?

I wasnt sick in the first trimester, just went off alot of stuff, but have still been eating regulary including the odd takeaway etc too... It hasnt all been salad!

Has anyone else lost weight? And does this have any implications for anything?

Im seeing my midwife on Weds so will mention it then, too.

See my post further down! I am exactly the same weight and thought it was odd. The midwife just laughed at me and said not to worry, I would definitely gain weight so I not too worried. I think it depends how big you are to start with, I am overweight anyway so shouldn't gain a lot and am sure the baby is getting what it needs.

I'm a Big Girl and weighed less at the ned of my pregnancy than I did at the end. I reckon our bodies know what they're doing.

ned??? END!!

I lost weight during the 1st and 2nd trimesters too and was similarly worried as I didn't have any morning sickness and I didn't really go off food either.

My midwife said it was nothing to worry about and said it was probably a combination of eating more healthily and giving up the booze.

As redandyellow has said I think it depends on how big you are to start with but as long as the baby grows ok, you will start gain weight over time...I did but not until later in the pregnancy and had a healthy DD in December.

I lost 8Kg in the first 14 weeks and at 25weeks now I haven't gained any from that point. I was pretty sick and jsut generally lost my appetite especially in the evening which is the worst time to eat!

mention it to the midwife, if they find it worrying they can send you for a scan to check the growth, but unless you are a skinny person or underweight to begin with, then its normally not a worry. just be grateful that you havent gained yet! youve got plenty of time to gain weight yet.

your body will prioritise the baby above you, so your baby will be getting everything it needs

Ok thanks for all your reassurances ladies...i'll tell the midwife next week when I see her.

Your metabolism goes up when you're pregnant so you may actually need more calories than before to maintain a weight.

I haven't lost anything, but I haven't put on any weight either (I'm 10 weeks) and I've been eating like a pig because eating has been helping my sickness. My boobs have gone up a few cup sizes and I've got a bump already so I must've been losing weight on the rest of my body!
