How big could I be at 17 weeks?

I've got a wedding to go to in July when I'll be 17 weeks pregnant and I'm a bit stressed about what I'm going to wear. It's my brother-in-law's wedding so the family will be really dressed up (DH & FIL in morning suits, SIL in bridesmaid dress, MIL in something fabulous!) and I don't want to be the scruffy one.

I've had a look for maternity dresses but haven't yet found anything and my MIL suggested I might be fine in a non-maternity dress that had a bit of room and that maybe I should buy something last minute when I'll know how big I'll be. But I'd really prefer not to leave finding a dress to the last minute if I can, in case I can't find anything!

I'm really unsure how big I'll be by then. I'm 10 weeks now and have a bit of a bump already - I don't fit into my normal non-stretchy trousers. Because of a back issue, my tummy muscles are a bit shot anyway, and I think I look more like I'm on number 2 or 3, not 1.

How big were you at 17-18 weeks? Especially any of you not on your first pregnancy! Were you still in some normal clothes?

I was not very big, just had a really dinky bump at 17 wks - but then again this is my first and I was still quite flat at 10wks, so maybe you'll get bigger! You could go for a high-waisted empire line type dress with a floaty skirt so lots of room for an expanding bump?

If this is your first, I doubt you'll show much at all. I wouldn't choose anything clingy but a normal summer dress maybe, or anything with a floaty cotton jacket should cover the bump effectively.

I managed to stand beside my brother at a funeral at 23 weeks just wearing a normal suit with jacket and he didn't notice but he's not the most perceptive man.

I'm 18 weeks(DC3) and still in some normal tops. Loose ones which are now clingy IYSWIM

Stick this in style & people may suggest some maternity dresses in places you havent thought of

With number 1 I was doing all I could to look as pg as possible, and what with that and the extra cake I ate had quite a bump by 17 weeks. Less so, 2nd pregnancy; was just in normal, but forgiving, clothes all the way through with 3rd.

I would buy something now that is mat wear and see you through to the end - isabella oliver is good (and sells on well on ebay), also topshop maternity has some dressier pieces sometimes.

I went to a wedding at 24 weeks in April and wasn't huge and so managed to get away with a monsoon dress which was a baggier variety anyway..... but again this is my first (and I hasten to add that I now at 30 weeks have a very noticeable bump and wouldn't be able to get the dress over it now...... !

Anyway I have just googled Maternity Wedding Outfits and found this link, there are some lovely summer wedding outfits on it, not that I have ever bought anything from here, and it does look a little expensive (I am not sure of your budget) but if you are wanting to splash out on something then you may well find it here..... I would wear a lot of these when I wasn't pregnant!

Hello op! I attended my brother-in-law's wedding 8 weeks ago at 20 weeks and wore a fab dress from Monsoon, so not maternity. I chose a dress that wasnt fitted and just flowed out from under the bustline. Gorgeous dress, felt a million dollars, not a big fat frump which was what I was worrying about! I did leave it until 2 weeks before to go and buy it though so I knew it would fit! Good luck and enjoy the wedding!

17 weeks you don't tend to be showing hugely, but anything fitted will be uncomfortable. How about a nice maxi dress or something? Hopefully the weather will be nice so you will be able to get away with something floaty rather than something fitted which will look more obviously stretched.

H&M usually have nice, reasonably priced maternity clothes which are not just several shades of black, white and camel.

I am not big, but have a definite bump at 18 weeks, so you will probably be fine with a non-maternity dress. However, if you are buying something new then you probably want to make sure that it fits you during the rest of the summer too, so think ahead. I just bought a really nice maxi dress from New Look (not smart enough for wedding, but the style is good) and my 34 week pg friend is borrowing it next week for a christening, so I know that I will be fine to wear it all summer.

I went to a wedding when 17 weeks with No.1. I wore a bias cut dress as this had room to stretch round a bigger tummy and boobs. Worked well for me. Go for some with some room but maternity wear will most likely be too big.

try something thats cut loosesly under the bust, the summer stuff thats out there should be more than suitable, you might not even have to buy a size up.
im on DD3 and went to my dads wedding when i was 25 weeks ish (cant remember) and did wear a maternity dress/long top, but i really didnt need it, i would have been fine with one of my normal loose tops

There are some good recommendations for maternity dresses on this thread that I started the other day.

Thanks for the help. I unexpectedly went into London today and found a beautiful dress in TopShop Maternity at Oxford Circus. It looks good now but has plenty of room.
