bugaboo, icandy, stokke? what fits best in a Yaris??

Hi,

Am a first time mum to be and DS is due in July. Could not be more confused about what to buy re pushchair/pram/travel system. Storage isn't an issue and I don't use public transport much. We have a small lift in our apartment block and there are @ 6 steps up to that...(actually just realised that! bugger) so weight would be an issue. and the Yaris boot is really tiny.
However, DPs car is huge so it would only ever be me and bubs in the Yaris - other trips we'd use DPs car.
Terrain around here can be a bit rough with pot holes and high curbs and we get lots of snow in the winter so these could be factors. Absolutley has to have a mum facing option as I am a big believer in that, but otherwise have no real requirements - oh, and am 6ft and DP is taller so anything made for lanky folk would be grand. Plus my mum has pointed out strong likelihood of the bump being a very looong child like it's mother, therefore plenty of growing room could be useful!

Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!

i have the icandy cherry and it fits in the boot of my Corsa with the parcel shelf taken out but there's no room for anything else! It's very light, but not sure it is sturdy enough for any harsh terrains. My DD still uses it from time to time if i know we're going to be walking for a very long time. It doesn't have an adjustable handle so not sure how you husband will cope, my husband is 6ft and is okay with it.

I would recommend the iCandy Peach or Stokke. Spent a long time with an extremely helpful sales assistant (mother of 3)trying out various brands. Narrowed it down to those two in the end. Husband is tall so he vetoed the Bugaboo Bee which folds down quite small. The Peach had the easiest/best fold down system I've seen on the market for that sort of system and you can adapt it to add a second child later which is brilliant but they are in short supply unless you want a whacky colour. We went for the Stokke in the end as there is a new car seat coming out which folds down flat making it easier to just go out with the chassis and car seat if space is an issue. Def take measurements of it folded though and try it out in your boot. It's fairly chunky all in all. You can flip the wheels too so that you can drag it up stairs on two wheels which is handy.

I have the Stokke and I absolutely love it, to the point that I have no intention of getting a double buggy or similar if we have another baby.

You would need to see if it fits in your boot though as it can take up quite a bit of space. I have a WV Golf and I know that you can also fit one in the boot of a Polo. I don't know where you are but we got ours here - they would definitely let you see if it fits in the boot of your car (just realise you mention snow so you are probably not near these shops!). They're also extremely helpful and will price match to even the best internet deals (I'm not on commission by the way)! The new Stokke also will also fit a Stokke buggy board (by 2 year old one does not).

One thing about the Stokke I have to say is that it doesn't cushion little ones much from pot holes etc and isn't great at going through snow.

My DH is 6'5'' and it was the ONLY pram we could find that he felt was tall enough. He also has back problems so the buggy height was a huge advantage as you don't have to bend much to pick the baby up. DS is also lanky and only fitted in the 'pram' option for 3-4 months but it still happily using the buggy at 21 months (we've just turned it to forward-facing which he now prefers although I still want him to face me)! The other advantage for people with long legs is that there is no bar at the front so you don't kick it every time you take a step.

Hi - we have a Yaris and a www.britax.co.uk/pushchairs/vigour-3-plus Britax Vigour 3+ pram. I love how easy it is to push about and it spins on the spot.

The new ones are suitable for newborn onwards though ours was the year before that started. We used a cot section for DD to start with so the frame went into the tiny boot and the cot piece just went into the back seat alongside the carseat no problem.

When we moved to the pushchair section they both fitted in the boot, just on their side.

I didn't want to start the habit of leaving DD in the carseat for any length of time so our carseat never left the car.

Hope that helps! I used to get the sales people to bring prams out to the Yaris to test in the boot, well worth doing as lots swore they would fit but then didn't due to length or angle of fold. I also found quite a discrepancy between measurements so going by stats online didn't help much either.

The Britax folds and clips together very, very easily so that also helped sell it to me when I was contemplating needing to put it into the boot and out with precision!
