Catgirl I remember that heat in 2003 - my DC was born in early Sept. In fact there has been a heatwave every time I am pregnant [reaches for pregnancy testing kit].

I have spent my last two pregnancies up until I could fly, so 36 weeks, in China during the summer! So i think you're all moaning about nothing!!

Bleurgh - 30 weeks and enormous (may have to have extra scan as so large kind of enormous).

My hands and feet are swollen even when I wake up. NOt that I'm sleeping well even with all the windows open and the fan on. I've been getting up at 4.30am.

I've had to take off my wedding rings and I've only been married 2 months

Changed clothes 3 times yesterday cos drenched in sweat. Had 2 cold baths adn one cold foot bath. Lying with my feet above my head for parts of the day to try and get the swelling down.

Am not happy. Have to go out later.
Wearing thin cotton trousers, vest top, sandals, hat and sunglasses (plus underwear obv). Is the least I think I can get away with. Having lots of ice lollies.

I hate everyone atm. Refusing to do much after 11am cos it is TOO HOT.

I am so glad I bought my new sandals a size too big to allow for swelling. Still get a bit tight but no way I could wear any other shoes.

Im 35 wks, and my feet and ankles started to swell on friday ( along with the heat, and increased blood pressure). Gutted, at the end of the day they are huge!!
No wonder why my boyf won't come near me!!!

This morning both feet are so painful with the swelling that I can barely walk Apparently drinking tea helps, so I'm going to give it a try!

It's toooooooooo hottttttttttt......

I'm 33 weeks and finding the nights unbearable. We stayed in a place without air con on holiday in India once, and kept having to get up in the night to hold our bedclothes under cold water before putting them back on the bed. Bit yicky but helped cool us and the room down. Also works with night clothes. I might try it tonight.

No other suggestions but glad of this thread as I've just found the Magicool I bought for my hospital bag last time and it's really hitting the spot

Oh, and hazeyjane - I have really low BP too (especially first thing in the morning). The advice my midwife gave was to make sure I drink enough fluid so that my blood volume increases - drinking a pint or two of water first thing does seem to help. Rotten though, isn't it? I hate feeling faint.

im 39 weeks, enjoying the heat to some extent, and got my bump out at tynemouth beach yesterday- which is interesting as it is brown today--however; Ive just realised that when baby comes my belly will be all saggy and crepey- and also now brown, which just makes me think of that old lady in 'there's something about mary' GROSS>

Anyone else been pregnant in 2001, 2003 and 2006? all scorchers.

Spray your sheets with water and put in the freezer. Lovely

I was 36 weeks when the temperatures hit the record levels in 2003. It was a long summer. Hot from May until the end of September. DS born mid Sept when the temp was still 28 degrees.

My tip would be to run your wrists under a cold tap for a minute or two every time you go to the loo (or more often if you like). Blissful.

I seem to remember I had some gel that you could smooth over yourself that was meant to cool you down. Not much good if you are fully clothed and in company but good for night times.

I got through bags of ice - couldn't have a drink without it.

I am wondering if those gel strips you can get for children with fevers would be any good for hot pregnant ladies. Might be worth a try.

Anyway, you have my sympathies ladies - I kind of get how you feel as I have a chest infection and a temperature so I am not enjoying this weather either!

Can i join and moan please? I'm 28 weeks but we are currently living in Malaysia (have been since I got preggers) where it is about 32c + everyday and SO humid on top of that. Plus I have a nearly 2 year old to look after........I'm so freaking hot and fed up EVERY SINGLE DAY i can't even begin to tell you, I hardly ever go outside which is just so depressing. And it's not going to get any better, that's the worst thing about it, only one good thing, everywhere here is air conned :-)

Morning fellow moaners

There's a breeze! Hooray! I'm refusing to move from the sofa this morning; it's the coolest place in the house. Also I'm justified in letting the housework go to pot since it's getting cooler this week and I can do it then

I had a newborn in 2006 and I'm not sure what's worse really, breastfeeding her was horrendous as she was thirsty from the heat and was just permanently attached and we'd both be sweating from the combined body heat so it was a vicious cycle. At least it's easy enough to cool myself down but tiny babies really aren't that good at letting you lie spreadeagled on your bed with a fan on!

becs the humidity would kill me! Would love air con though...a friend has it in his bedroom but I'm not sure my dh would be impressed at me going round to sleep in another man's bed

I'm due in Oct and had last child at the end of Jul 06 (at the time the hottest month ever recorded!) so we got a portable air con unit off the internet - a website called something simple like aircon4u - and found it really useful. Still got it. Still use it. Even tho DD managed to drop a key through the vents, it's still going strong!

Hi Ladies,

I am only 20+3 and not suffering too much yet but the aircon in my office has just gone down and I work in one of those "nice to look at but totally impractical" offices that is all glass!! so today it is like sitting in a greenhouse in here and the windows don't open.

going out now to get an ice lolly!!

What are you all doing to alleviate swollen feet and ankles?
I hadn't realised at first that my Feet and ankles had swollen, until I just happened to lift my trouser legs to air my ankles, and everyone gasped , my feet have ballooned. I can't bend or wiggle my toes.

I raised the bottom of the mattess and that helps overnight. But in the day?

Hello - I'm actually due today but thought I would just mention something that happpened over the weekend in relation to the hot weather. The baby really slowed down her movements dramatically on Friday and Saturday and I ended up in St Thomas' as they told me to come in - predictably as soon as she was on the monitor she started zooming around and all was ok BUT...the very nice dr said it was probably me getting dehydrated in the hot weather which can apparently really slow down their movements down....Sooo...I am drinking tons and staying in the shade. I'm sure youre all doing that anyway but it gave me a real scare so thought I'd pass on the advice...

Hopefully it'll cool down tomorrow!

North London is like a sauna. My car reads 32 degrees. I'm only 5 months pg, so more mobile than some of the other mums-to-be.

Why are the swings and play parks in full sun?

OP - you could spend the afternoon in a shopping centre. It's too hot outside.

Well after being out since 8.30 this morning, dds and I are now sat in lounge with fan on, eating pineapple and drinking juice, watching Belle's Enchanted Christmas (I thought it would cool us down).

I have peeled off my horrendous support stockings, and have my feet up - mine haven't swollen, maybe because of low blood pressure (this might be the only upside of low bp!)

What I hate is that I feel guilty, I always feel like we should be outside, doing stuff when the weather is nice. When we got home dd1 said 'lets make a desert in the garden mummy', I just wanted to lie down in a cool room and snooze, but that just doesn't cut it with dds.

Hope everyone else is managing to keep cool.
