Msjayjay I've been craving Ribena ice cubes all day, they sound yummmm! Can't think of anything nicer to freeze actually. Maybe apple juice or grape juice...? Can't get Ribena here though, and I have a 3 hour test for gestational diabetes next Friday so am laying off the sugar

Lastyearsmodel, poor you with the swelling! I'm swelling a bit but I bought some nice pink Clarks sandals yesterday and they are sooo comfy.

On a tmi note, I bought some anti-chafing gel for my thighs which are rubbing together and really hurting and I want to wear the few maternity dresses and skirt I have. Worked ok actually, did need reapplied after a few hours, but did the trick ok. Still going to buy shorts though...

lifeinthesun · 22/05/2010 08:19

You think is bad in the UK... 36 degrees here today and I am 36 weeks pregnant! Nice!!! heading to the beach to try and cool down

msjayjay · 22/05/2010 09:31

yes they are Yum Petisa but my next creation is pineapple juice with pineapple segmants in. Just freezing now You can allways make some ice cubes with a low suger drink. Takes me back to when i was younger then it was alcahol.

Good luck with your gestational tests.

CherryPie3 · 22/05/2010 10:03

Ooooh, MsJayJay those pineapple ice cubes sounds scrumptious!!!

Is pineapple ok to eat if you'r not at the trying to bring on labour stage?I'm 33 weeks and DH bought a pineapple this week which I'm not sure about eating.

msjayjay · 22/05/2010 11:00

Never knew about pineapple till recently but this is what I have found (below). I think a few cubes with a few segments will easily be ok, I am 34 weeks today and will not be drinking gallons of it.

Is Pineapple Safe During Pregnancy?
Is it safe to take pineapple during pregnancy? Is it advisable at the end of a pregnancy to take pineapple juice or eat the flesh in order to bring on labour?

Maybe.

Eating pineapple or drinking pineapple juice is said to be an old wive?s tale to bring on labour for woman past their due date. Large amounts of pineapple juice can in fact cause uterine contractions. It?s for this reason that in early pregnancy, it?s often suggested that you don?t drink pineapple juice in excess amounts.

Why pineapple can cause contractions
Fresh pineapple contains Bromelain which can also soften the cervix but it is said that it takes large quantities to have any effect which can also result in diarrhea. Some women say that they?ve had zero problems having plenty of pineapple and pineapple juice during pregnancy and others claim it brought on labour. The verdict on pineapple during pregnancy? Some would say that you should eat it in moderation and watch for any signs of problems before your due date. If you?re at or past your due date, it might help you.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 22/05/2010 11:51

As far as I have been able to find out, the actual amount of bromelain in pineapple is negligible. You'd actually need to consume 5 large pineapples to have any effect. Now, I do love pineapple, but not that much!

beanlet · 22/05/2010 13:01

It's bizarrely comforting to hear that loads of other people are having bad swelling in this weather too -- my hands are massive, and my feet, ankles and calves are so swollen they hurt! Hasn't helped that I've had to walk around London and sit at my desk all week. I've been sleeping naked without even a sheet and the window open, and still push my poor DH away in the morning when he tries to cuddle me

hazeyjane · 22/05/2010 13:37

Ugh, have spent the hole morning feeling faint, so dh has come home and taken our dds to work with him, so I can lie in a cool dark room. I am also sporting the lovely look of maternity skirt (I can highly recommend Avent liquid talc for chafing thighs - lasts all day), one black support stocking and birkenstocks.

If anyone has any tips on how to deal with low blood pressure, I would be very grateful, it is horrible to have to cope with dds (3 and 4) whilst worrying I am going to faint.

Mookymoo · 22/05/2010 18:27

34 weeks and have feet like two gammon joints! Tepid baths are great for cooling down though, and I had some unexpected luck today finding an old floor length white floaty skirt - with an elasticated waist!! so chuffed. An excuse for my ice lolly craving too so not doing too badly but it is bloody boiling here

Mookymoo · 22/05/2010 18:32

Also found another fetching outfit when I got home from work yesterday was a pair of DH's baggy boxers and a really lightweight shirt. Really comfy but not going to get away with rocking that look outside of the house

msjayjay · 22/05/2010 18:46

I wore my slippers when I nipped (well woddled) to the corner shop before. Nothing else will fit on my feet.

MarthaLovesMatthew · 22/05/2010 19:42

I was heavily pg last summer (due Aug. 23rd). I slept downstairs on the sofa for weeks, I was so uncomfortable. It was miserable at the time, not so bad looking back now.

What does it say about me that I'm feeling envious reading about all you pg people.

Time for DC2 maybe...

WickedWitchSouthWest · 22/05/2010 19:56

Today I have been mostly eating crappy £1 for 10 ice lollies (they're the best!) and sticking my feet in dd's paddling pool. Bliss! I'm going to make some juice-cubes for tomorrow I think

annatw9 · 22/05/2010 21:26

I was pregnant last summer during May and June - sooo hot! i remember sweating in my hospital bed... I am AGAIN pregnant this summer! bring it on... lots of cold water and ice cream, wonderful. being pregnant is a great excuse to walk really slowly and sit down a lot. then again at least time i ll only be really big during sept/oct/nov, nice cool autumn hopefully..

bsmirched · 22/05/2010 21:37

It's just hideous, isn't it? Am 'only' 33 wks, but don't like the heat at the best of times, so this is horrible!

At least now I've bought a lovely water spritz thing from Tesco and DH has brought the fan downstairs for me, so not feeling tooooo bad.

To top it off, I also have a cold so between blowing my nose, coughing, yobs walking down the street at 3.30 and the sodding dawn chorus starting around the same time, I just got no sleep last night so am a little tetchy (you'd never guess, would you? lol)

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 22/05/2010 21:53

I was fine during the day today, as I spent most of it outside in the shade reading. A bit less pleasant now but I've got home made juice lollies in the freezer and am wearing as little as possible (currently a nice thin strapless dress).

I'm 37 weeks and not sure whether it is worse to have a newborn or be pregnant in this!

mummyistheword · 22/05/2010 22:28

i am just sweating really, have just been given a lend of some lovely summer maternity dresses from a kind neighbour and my 2 yr old asked me to get in her paddling pool this afternoon, i just put my feet in to her disappointment as my bot/bump too big and its soooooo hard to get up and down off the floor! didnt notice this first time round minus the toddler! .....the dresses i hope will be cooler than my leggings/long tees uniform and the paddling pool foot dip will be in use daily while its so hot, im 33 weeks so abit to go yet, last baby was born in dec, i was in hosp christmas/boxing day! born the 27th though, didnt notice any kind of heat wave then, oddly enough. lots of tinsel and reindeer ears though. merry heatwave ladies. xxx

EdgarAllenPoll · 22/05/2010 23:32

29 weeks now...

DD was born in summer 2007..hot, hot..hot and sweaty..she wanted to sleep instead of feed...(apparently they get more feeding probs in summer, this is why)

this year i am planning on sitting with her in her little paddling pool to keep cool.

just been a really lovely day though, and much better than January pregnancy where every time i coughed i thought my waters had gone....

biddysmama · 23/05/2010 00:33

i'd be absolutely fine (27 weeks) if i didnt have to move! wish the summer holidasy would hurry up so i dont have to walk ds to school... but then i will be 36 weeks! whos bright idea was it to try for a baby in november? ds was born in november and dd in march so i wasnt massivly pregnant either time in the summer!

hairymelons · 23/05/2010 01:19

Have just had the hottest, sweatiest day imaginable. Just had a lukewarm shower to cool down, it was heavenly. I work in a kitchen, am on my feet all day and will NOT be able to cope if this weather continues! Only 20 weeks now so I fear the worst is to come.

Oh it's lovely to have a moan in your company, thanks OP for starting this thread.

AngelsOnHigh · 23/05/2010 02:23

Wait until it is 40 degrees
