I live in Dubai and it'sd already 39 degrees in the shade during daytime. I'm 22 weeks but will deliver at the height of summer here in September.

With my last baby I was in Singapore (30-32 C) and I was so hot I had the AC on 17 degrees but was still uncomfortable. My poor Dh lay beside me shivering in the cold air blast.

At least you have cold water to cool yourself down. Our taps run on lovely 26 degrees. Get that ice bucket out (surely there's no work policy on that one and get soaking.

Would commend buying a fan for your bedroom but keep it away from your face, ears or you'll get ill.

Also buy some Evian spray water vaporiser and spritz a veil of coolness over you, I never leave my house without one.

Kitty- I feel your pain. It's Ramadan as well in August/September, right?

I'm now in HK. Currently 30ish but will be hotter and is insanely humid. Also having a September baby so stuck here July/August.

However, at least everywhere has air con.

I have been heavily pregnant during 42 degrees & it was horrendous. I had dd1 during the UK heatwave of 2006 & I thought that was hot...stuck in hospital for a week (section) with no air con was not good. But we are more geared up for it here (Australia) but it is still very hard to do anything! It got to 42 the summer I was carrying dd2. And dd1 was at Kindy, so I had no choice but to go out in it, at the hottest time of the day, as she did mainly half days...and my car didn't have air con then!

Some advice....

Don't put your feet in cold/icy water, once taken out your body will fight to raise it's temp & you will be even hotter. You need room temp water

Spray cool water on your face every so often

Put drinking water in the freezer & take out just before completely frozen...stays colder longer & has ready made ice

Close curtains on windows that get direct sun as soon as it starts to warm up

Hold off on air con for as long as you can, to get the best benefits

Lie down when possible & do as little as possible

Keep your hair wet if you can, I found this really helped to keep me cool & as much as possible keep it off your shoulders

Try & get outside in the evenings...that was impossible here, as it was still 36+ some nights

33/6 weeks here and was in tears last night and we haven't hit the hottest weather yet.

I am on my own so have to get my own food etc and last night I just wanted someone to get my food and make my drinks while I could sit with my feet up. Sorry if this sounds selfish but would be nice to be looked after a bit during pregnancy.

Dreading today as I have a hospital visit and I cannot get into any shoes. My plan is to have a long bath before going out hopefully bringing the swelling on my feet down a bit.

On the plus side I can get away with wearing naff clothes in summer and not worrying about the size of my stomach plus the baby will be here soon.

Take care in the heat folks

Hello MummyAnabella, just to confirm that I am very hot too at 36 weeks. I keep saying to my DH, it's so hot, it's so hot, and he looks at me like I'm totally mad. My absolutely favourite thing is feeling a cold breeze on my bare feet. Lovely!

38+3 here and I'm finding it unbearable in sunny tropical Northumberland. I've had a rotating fan on in the bedroom for the past week (dh had to get it down at 11pm one night when I could bare it no longer) and have a cool bath every tea time.

No other tips unfortunately, but I did feel extremely warm at the end of my last pg and slept with all the windows open in the height of January snow.

It's about 20 degrees here, I am 39+2 and have just been out for lunch with friend and I was sweating before I even got out of the car! I drank two large glasses of water with ice and had an enormous bowl of ice cream. It cooled me down temporarily but
even so I am now swelled up like a beach ball! Have come straight home and opened every door and window and stripped off.
A good tip I used for keeping cool at work was taking a frozen bottle of water to work with me. It melted gradually throughout the day and meant I could drink ice cold water and also hold the bottle to my head if I had a hot flush!

Kitty you are living my future. I live in the south of Spain and although I am only 28 weeks pregnant, it's already reaching 30 degrees every day. I'm due in August, someone help me!! In July and August here it reaches 45 degrees every day and can go as high as 53 degrees!!

I drink tea and fan myself at the same time

No seriously, the plan is to move very slowly and do as little as possible (with a 2.5 year old toddler ) have a cold shower 4 times a day or so, sprawl naked on the marble floor, sleep in the bath, have the windows and blinds closed most of the time, stay in between 1pm and 9pm, obv drink loads of water, sit with feet in cool water... Last year (while not pregnant) I resorted to sleeping naked on the bed with a wet bath towel spread over me and the fan directed at my body - worked a treat!

Maybe some of these tips are a bit extreme for England in May...

I am a bit confused. I am in London but it isn't THAT warm?!!! Last week I was still in my winter coat! I am 30 weeks too but am sitting in my office right now in long sleeves and wore a mac to walk to work this morning and pop out at lunchtime. Am I in a parallel universe?!

Well I am home all things ok at the hospital apart from the usual high BP. Now I am just trying to to recognise these things on the end of my legs.

Oh and having a refreshing ice lolly which is so nice. I think I will get a few ice lollies and get them in the freezer but for now I am going to make some Ribena ice cubes.

I am in Aberdeen and it is soooooo hot here as well.
I was also pregnant during the heatwave in 2003 and dd was born in October that year is was awful.

Thankfully this time I only have a few eeks to go but I do look like this a lot of the time and it has nothing to do with embarassment I just look like a big red blob.

I am coping by eating Fab ice lollies and whingeing to DH about how hot I am

I am not a big lover of the hot weather anyway but this is just horrible I was quite happy that the weather wasn't hotting up over the last month so this is obviously mother nature getting back at me now on behalf of all my friends who were bemoaning hale stones at the beginning of May.

I'm also 30 weeks (does that count as heavily pregnant yet?) but was also thinking it wasn't that hot (am in London). It looks like for once the south east hasn't had the hottest of the weather today! It was fairly warm on the tube and nice out in the sun, but it's not hot here by any means.

I was pregnant in the heatwave summer of 2003 (dd born 7 August) AND the heatwave summer of 2006 (dd born 26 June), so I have a terrible feeling that this summer is going to be a very very hot one. I'm only 17 weeks and came home and complained to dp that I'm too hot!

hi, havent really suffered (much) this time round as still fairly early @ 23 weeks, guess i have that yet to come, but when i was heavily pg and living in france in the high of the summer i used to go through cans of evian spray - any water spray will do, just couple squirts would cool me right down, then obviously loose cotton clothes, lots of cold fluids and ice lollies, staying in the shade and just generally taking it easy x

The ribena ice cubes are working a treat and actually better then a whole ice lolly at once. Now what flavour shall I make next.

I am 32 weeks, and although it hasn't been horrendously hot, it has been warm enough for me to panic about how crap I'm going to feel when it gets hotter.

I have spent the whole day feeling faint, I have very low blood pressure, so not good in warm weather, and have to wear thick support stockings for varicose veins - this is not a good look with birkenstocks!

Ahhhhh! My People! I've found you! 28 weeks or so here, with a 4yo and 2yo too. Ohmigod I am so hot and swollen. I even shed a tear tonight as I confessed to DP how much I am dreading the summer. Due end of August. 3 months to go!

I feel massive already, most of my sandals don't fit and the ones that do look awful. My feet and ankles have never swelled like this before.

Those of you who've mentioned being in Spain and further afield, you have my every sympathy. I am already so grouchy and shouty with the DCs and of course all the windows are open. I dread going anywhere because everything makes me sweat (nice) - aaaaagh!!!!

DD was born in June 2006 so I had a bit of the heat but was mostly sweatily postnatal through the hottest part.

Just the thought of finding something to wear that fits depresses me, let alone that's cool enough and vaguely suits me.

Phew, this is therapeutic.

DP's just told me rain is forecast for half-term week - yeay!

I'm 34+4 and I have cankles and sausages for fingers and toes. Who's idea was this again?!

I could probably survive if I could just sleep all afternoon or sit with my feet in cold water while eating ice lollies but unfortunately 4yo dd needs to be taken swimming, or to the park and just generally entertained! How selfish!

Just hoping and praying I don't go overdue...

Cooling sprays, wet hair and sleeping under a wet towel - my favourite tips so far.

This thread is like a lovely cooling shower - thank you .
