Cervical Stitch - What are my friends chances?

One of my closest friends has just had a cervical stitch (she is about 14 weeks now). It is her second stitch and her 4th pregnancy. She lost the first 3 babies at 18-19 weeks and is understandably very anxious at the moment.

Her history is that her mother died of cervical cancer at quite a young age. She has two sisters and all three of them have bicornuate uteruses. One of her sisters has adopted after several miscarriages (although they were early ones) and her other sister has never tried.

My friend had her first late loss about 4 years ago now. She tried again and the same thing happened again - her waters went and the doctors could do nothing

The third time they put in a stitch under local anaesthetic but it did not work.

This time she has been under the care of a consultant and has bi-weekly scans. She had the stitch put in last week (this was a different type of stitch and they did two high up on the cervix under general anaesthetic) and today had a checkup where they said the baby is doing well but the cervix is short so she should not be confident but hopeful. She has been told no sex or exercise but has not been put on bed rest.

I am so worried for her and wonder if anyone has been through something similar which had a good outcome?

Nothing similar, a friend had cervical stitches due to previous probs that worked fine.

Just wishing your friend the best.

I have a good friend who had a cervical stitch at 16 weeks (following two healthy pregnancies/births/babies, and one late miscarriage at about 20 weeks). She delivered a very small but healthy baby at 30 weeks. He is a gorgeous 5 yr old now. There is hope.

I wish her all the luck in the world x

A friend lost her first at around 24 weeks. She had a stitch with her second, who is now a boisterous 4 year old, and is on the verge of having her third (also with stitch). Not sure if the outcome is related to the problem necessitating the stitch, but it certainly has worked for her. Hope it works for your friend as well.
