Fantastic care/service at Eastbourne Hospital yesterday!

I know these message boards get used a lot to vent frustrations about poor care/service received especially from Midwives, consultants etc (and I am one of the biggest culprits!)

But yesterday I received such fantastic care at Eastbourne District General Hospital (EDGH) that I can't not thank them publicly!

I was booked in for my 12wk scan and combined test yesterday. When I turned up for my appointment I was told that it had been cancelled by my midwife as I am seeing an Obstrecian in mid-June (as my DS passed away when only 8wks due to an undiagnosed bowel problem so we need special monitoring)and that the Obstrecian appointment would take precedence over any other planned scans, and that they simply didnt have any appointments free to see me.

I have been tying myself up in absolute knots the last few days over my scan, thinking the absolute worst, so when they told me I wouldn't be seeing anyone for another 6 weeks, which meant we wouldnt be able to have the nuchal scan, wouldnt be able to tell anyone for another 6 weeks etc, I completely lost it and broke down in tears which was HUGELY embarrasing - however instead of making me feel like a chubby hormonal loon they took me into a sideroom, asked why I was crying and when I explained about my DS and showed them my notes they couldn't have been more caring or kind - they found me a sonographer within minutes to check me over, did the nuchal measurements and everything was fine

So I just really wanted to say a huge public thank you to them for the kindness shown, and say to anyone using Eastbourne District General that it is a really good hospital.

It is so good to hear a positive experience and that you got the scan you needed and had been booked in for and that the outcome was good.

Congratulations on your pg! :-)

Thank goodness they were so kind, you really needed them to be in that situation. I hope you are feeling more relaxed now the first major hurdle has gone so well. All the very, very best for your pregnancy.

That's great but why on earth did your MW cancel the appt without a)consulting you b) informing you?

cluckyduck · 19/05/2010 10:10

Thank you both.

I have no idea Bella, she was pretty dreadful in the first appointment too (she was filling in for my community midwife who was stuck overseas by volcano ash) - she didnt read my notes, so asked me to fill in the booking in questionaire myself in the reception of the Medical Centre and I ended up sobbing quite manically (are you detecting a pattern here )and was pretty rubbish during the appointment to be honest.

The receptionist at the hospital had no idea why it would be cancelled, and said it wasnt their usual policy at all.

cluckyduck · 19/05/2010 10:11

Oops I posted that under Cluckyduck instead of Abiabi! (I use Abiabi to talk about my DS and Clucky to talk about more inane subjects )

bellabelly · 19/05/2010 13:29

Hmm, yes definite pattern emerging. I do hope you won't have to see her again but it would be well worth making some sort of complaint imho. She needs to be told not to do it again!

CJK1 · 21/05/2010 14:40

Excellent and very reassuring. I shall be there in six months!

AbiAbi · 21/05/2010 19:58

Yes I think I will talk about it with a different MW next time I get a chance!

CJK- I had a great experience there, I hope you'll be as happy

Hi AbiAbi - I'm from Eastbourne too and have had all 3 of my babies there and will be having this one there hopefully too (10 weeks,so not far behind you!)
Although only my midwife remembers me, I have a fondness for the staff who've been there over the years both in O & G and Litlington, as they've all contributed towards the lovely ELCS's I've had. Last time, the whole thing was done so well I managed to get in and out of the bath for a shower on my own after 2 days!
Not so sure about that m/w though - I have heard on the grapevine that there are a few who're a bit slapdash (mine's def not though!) - give the CMW's office a ring and have a chat about it - I'm sure they'll help sort you out!
May well be seeing you there in Dec if you're a bit late, and I'm a bit early!
