I was wondering...

Sex in pregnancy is ok, inserting a penis.

Inserting a finger to gentley check your cervix seems to be the biggest no-no due to the infection risk.

Genuine question-what's the difference? I mean at least you know how clean your finger is, but someone else's penis can be an unknown.

I don't think I'm right, I'm genuinely wondering about this advice.

When you say "someone else's penis" I am assuming you mean your partner's. In which case, I'm hoping you'd have some level of control or it's cleanliness before having sex - ie. telling him to go and have a wash beforehand if you are concerned.

I'm guessing if there is a risk of infection from feeling your own cervix then the main difference is that a penis doesn't have fingernails . Maybe a sharp fingernail can scratch delicate areas and germs can also be trapped underneath the nail.

I think they mean that there is a risk of infection if and after your waters have broken.
