Very thirsty at 17 weeks - should I be worried?

I've been very thirsty for the last few weeks. Had put it down to being simply yet another pregnancy symptom (!). Is it? Or should I be worried about gestational diabetes? I thought it only developed in the third trimester but tonight I literally cannot quench my thirst (have drunk 1.5 pints in last hour and still thirsty!) It's like one of those horrible dreams where you drink and drink...my tummy is so full now that I can't go to bed!

I was unbelievably thirsty throughout pregnancy (and still am now due to bfing) - I am not a healthcare prof but believe it to be perfectly normal - just don't drink til you pop!

could be perfectly normal, but increased thirst is a sign of diabetes (gestational or otherwise), so let your midwife know and they can organise tests. i think (might be wrong) but gestational diabetes can develop at any point in the preganncy, its just more likely in the third trimester?? not sure, but its worth have a GTT to check things out

I am thirsty like you, mentioned it to GP last week and as a result am having fasting bloodtests on wed just to check all is well.

i was the same and its apparantly very normal, I was also 17 weeks when it was at its peak, they will test you FOR gd ANYWAY, but remeMber all that amniotic fluid needs to come from somewhere!

I get very thirsty. I find it is worse if I haven't constantly sipped water little and often during the day. Have a glass or bottle to hand and have some every half hour and you might not need to drink a bath's worth of water in the evening!

Thanks for your responses - I'm seeing my mw this week so I will mention it to her then.

hophop I have my glass to hand today! Don't want a repeat of last night...it was after after 1 before I was comfortable enough to sleep

I know that feeling well! I found that a glass of really cold milk or 3 often cured me!
