boy or girl old wives tales

Am 19 weeks pg and we definately do not want to know the sex of the baby. We don't mind either way and would just like a surprise.

People constantly telling me they can tell by things like how I'm carrying my bump, what I've been craving and how much morning sickness I've had.

Could anyone tell me if they were told all these things and the baby turned out to be the OPPOSITE sex from what they were told to expect. Please don't tell me if the old wives tales were true, just if they were proved wrong.

Many thanks.

i had 3 very different pregnancies and all 3 were boys

my mum had hideous morning sickness with my brother
then she had hideous morning sickness with me

my friend was convinced she was having a girl because she was fat all round and old wive's tale says if it's all out the front it's a boy and if it's spread round it's a girl.
she had a boy

also, not a sex thing, but was told htat my baby would be hairy because i had terrible heartburn and my baby was bald!

i craved savoury things with 2 of my pregnancies and sweet things with the other (and all 3 were boys as i said up top)

I had the same pregnancy twice - no morning sickness but spd, craved sweet things, went off veg, huge bump carried very upfront.

One boy, one girl.

busymum05 · 16/05/2010 08:51

chinese gender chart predicted i was having a girl, apprently this chart has never been wrong...well i had a boy!!!

Old wives tales are myths, it can only be B OR G

ShowOfHands · 16/05/2010 08:53

Yes, I was having a boy in every way you'd like to list. Friend at work who was pg at the same time was having a girl. Everybody swore it.

Both wrong. I have a dd and she has a ds.

MumNWLondon · 16/05/2010 09:21

I was sure I would be able to tell what DC3 was after having one DD and one DS... with different pregnancies.. (eg has MS with DD but not with DS) but no, had MS with DC3 (so thought girl) but it was boy.

I carried exactly the same all three times, no cravings any time. So its all rubbish!

Brilliant- keep them coming !!

Had morning sickness with all 3 pregnancies (am currently 38 weeks) and have carried the same with all 3. DC 1, girl, DC 2, boy, DC 3 a surprise!!!

And I've had exactly the same cravings with all 3 PG's!!!!!

I've been reading articles on the New Scientist site by a pregnant journalist, and she looked at the myths before having her gender scan to see if any were right:

1st Pg: was the size of a hefflump all around, sick as a dog, cronic heartburn towards the end ('hairy baby'...no, an undiagnosed breech), everyone thought it was a girl. Was a boy.

2nd Pg: Much smaller, mostly all bump, totally different cravings, no heartburn, still very sick even towards the end. Was a boy. A bit of a shock as we were convinced as it had been so different that a girl was arriving. Had to come up with a boy's name very quickly.

colie · 16/05/2010 12:49

1st pregnancy no morning sickness. No spd, put on under 2 stone, all at front. A girl.

2nd pregnancy. Terrible nausea, ms, all the time. Put on 3 and a half stone. Weight everywhere. Terrible heart burn, spd. Sure it was a boy. It was a girl.

3rd pregnancy. Exact same as 2nd. A girl again.

4th pregnancy. Exact same as 2nd and 3rd pregnancies, and been told by sonographer she thinks it is a boy.

There is definately no way of telling or knowing for sure, until it comes out!

wow thatz crazey my first no real sickness ate a lot very easy preg, gave bith to a girl my belly was very high and round. this time i am as sick as a dog really weak... very stressed my belly looking low at the momement, realy want a boy, but if its a girl i'l be happy.

weegiemum · 17/05/2010 12:23

There were SO many people told me I wa shaving a boy with dd1 cos of (1) the way I carried and (2) all the indigestion I had.

Was delighted to have a girl to prove them wrong.

Was also told my baby would be "hairy" as I had indigestion! WTF?

I was, though, very sick with dd1 and dd2, but not with ds (in the middle). Funny enough, noone commented on this, though I was even vomiting at work after I had announced my pregnancy!

Lovethesea · 17/05/2010 13:15

Had no morning sickness with DD or with this pregnancy (am told this is a DS I'm carrying by sonographer).

Craved sweet chocolate and ice cream both times. Also wanted to eat more meat with both pregnancies.

Was told my bump HAD to be a boy with DD by some people and also that it HAD to be a girl with DD...... well, 50/50 chance!

This time I have less weight on me but that's from running after DD I think. As it's meant to be a boy this time I would've expected more weight gain as they are usually a bit bigger I think.
