Thread about the good things about being pg (having a baby at the end doesn't count!)

I'm so sick of starting miserable threads on here about how crap being pg and how much I hate it so thought I would try and forget the insomnia, cramps, bleeding stress, thrush, possible SPD, hormones, morning sickness etc aside for a bit and request some positive posts about what is good about being pg, because I struggle to think of any upsides.

Even the excuse to eat crap is no longer fun after 4 months of morning sickness and crap eating. Having a baby at the end doesn't count as that is (hopefully) a given and when I think about the first few weeks with a newborn (and now a toddler) it doesn't seem like a plus point

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 15/05/2010 20:32

you have a legitimate excuse to be a lazy slattern and do no housework whatsoever from 34 weeks onwards, if not before

thisisyesterday · 15/05/2010 20:36

i like the middle bit of being pregnant. after the sickness has gone and before you're too fat to walk

the bit where it's clear you are pregnant and people ask you about it .I love it

dp is nice to me when i am pregnant too and looks after me which is nice! he gets all protective and manly lol

you can wear clothes without worrying that your tummy looks too fat because it's supposed to look fat!

you have an exucse to go and look at all the teeny baby clothes in mothercare

JaxTellersOldLady · 15/05/2010 20:37

I loved being pregnant, apart from the morning sickness feeling, I treasured every moment of it, loved the butterfly feeling when it kicked, and then when I was much much bigger and I could see it wriggling around in the bath.

The sound of the heartbeat, the first time you hear it (actually every time) and when the sonographer shows you your baby on the screen and it looks like a little person, not like a bean.

Is that positive enough? I was happy, happy happy!

... and then it had to come out...

ParanoidAtAllTimes · 15/05/2010 20:38

Scans (if all is good, obviously) and feeling the little kicks and punches

ParanoidAtAllTimes · 15/05/2010 20:39

x posts!

Rockbird · 15/05/2010 20:39

I loved being pg...apart from the raging heartburn, crippling sickness, tiredness, fear, pillocky HCPs and no sleep. Loved it!

ParanoidAtAllTimes · 15/05/2010 20:40

And, weirdly, I actually enjoyed clothes shopping. I didn't need to worry that I wasn't as thin as I'd like to be!

Shaz10 · 15/05/2010 20:41

I loved hearing the heartbeat. I liked that bit better than the scans!

Watching him move around in my belly.

Loved the clothes.

Pushing my navel in and out using my stomach muscles.

I don't think I cooked dinner the entire time I was pregnant!

withorwithoutyou · 15/05/2010 20:43

Umm.....

No hangover for 9 months?

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 15/05/2010 20:45

I know it's awful but I don't even like the movement. It makes me feel constantly winded. I tell you, I'm a tough one to convert on this matter (being pg I mean)!

I'm not entirely sure the bump makes my arse look smaller. However I do remember that the bump seems to force my love handles forward meaning that I look narrower as I get fatter!

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 15/05/2010 20:46

Nope, sorry withorwithoutyou, I had pretty much a 4 month hangover with morning sickness, so that one doesn't count.

I guess I quite like the attention of being pg and having a newborn.

Oh true. I felt like that with my first.

I don't know why I'm contributing really, I've got 6 weeks to go and I'm counting the days.

Very thick hair?

Erm having an excuse to eat ice cream (for the heartburn)

In the second trimester (just before getting big) your boobs 'puff' up making them look a lot perkier...

myfirstbump · 15/05/2010 21:03

It's easier to look after the baby while it's in there than when it gets out!

A week to go, and I'm almost hoping to wait a little bit longer. Much as I'm excited to meet it, I am quite happy being pg. Aches and all!

Ummm... dresses look WAY better on with a bump. I'm a bit pear shaped and they don't suit me at all normally.

Umm... picking a pushchair and cot and colours for the baby's room?

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 15/05/2010 21:04

'It's easier to look after the baby while it's in there than when it gets out!'

Oh I think this may be my ultimate one

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 15/05/2010 21:06

Okay, I'm probably not the best person to post as I bloody well hated being pregnant, I'm not one who deals well with loss of control, and was not prepared for my body being totally out of control!

But...

I did like the fact when I was pregnant, I was never really "alone", as even by myself, there was me and my baby, if that makes sense.

myfirstbump · 15/05/2010 21:08

Glad to be of assistance Bumper

KnottyLocks · 15/05/2010 21:12

A fantastic excuse to avoid any social engagements you would have gone to?

del1 · 15/05/2010 21:47

I love being pregnant - Sorry !!

  1. you don have to pay, to get big boobs!
  2. you can forget things, and nobody minds!
  3. after a meal you don't have to hold your stomach in!
  4. you can shout at the dog/hubby, and you are forgiven?
  5. most people move out of your way, let you go first when out shopping etc.
  6. not having to shave your legs or lady garden as much (cause I'm not getting it much at 33 wks) I could go on and on, but think I have a long way to convince you bumper ? Oh forgot, my fav reason - is that you can give yourself a pat on the back. That your body has done the amazing thing of making, and carrying a human being out of a tiny little egg. ( ooh, i'm getting all emotional- lol)
Rinnyx · 15/05/2010 23:42

For me the best is the big boobs, I'm only a small B cup normally so yep love the boobies and DP does to
Scans and hearing the heatbeat.
Feeling baby move
No AF for 9 months
Shopping be it for you or baby, I love to shop and DP cant moan
My hair seems to be nicer and nails stronger
