Has anyone got any tips on swollen ankles/feet? I'm 32 weeks and for some reason today just my left foot has swollen quite a lot, it's looking fairly bizarre. I've sat with my leg up against the wall, foot above my head for about half an hour but feeling slightly sick doing that now and it's had no effect.
I wouldn't mind but supposed to be going out for dinner later with some work mates and not even my birkenstocks are going on comfortably

Swelling is a sign of pre-eclampsia, maybe you should arrange to have a MW visit soon?

Oh bugger, yes I will. My hands have gone up a bit in last couple of days, have had to take my wedding ring off. Think I'll have a browse of the NHS website then, thanks

If your hands have swollen too then I would call them.

Its probably nothing, pregnant women do swell! When I was 42 weeks with DS1 my boots that previously had about a 2 inch gap all round got stuck tight on my feet!

I'm sure it will be fine but always better to check

I've given them a call and they've said to pop down and see them because it's just the one foot rather than both. Thanks for the advice! x

Sorry for the late reply, it wasn't pre-eclampsia. Just weird swelling!

Good news hope you have more luck with footwear.

Disenchanted3 · 15/05/2010 19:02

Glad to hear it!

Not really! still a foot from another planet. I'm on my last week of work before maternity leave though so just gonna have to suck it up and look forward to the sofa and dvds

I'm 33 weeks and sympathise -- yesterday I had my second bout of ankles swelling up into tree trunks, this time accompanied by swollen legs, arms and hands. My thumbs hurt like they've got arthritis!

Generally speaking, swelling is no longer considered necessarily to be a sign of pre-eclampsia, though they do say swelling in one limb should be checked so you did the right thing.

Put a pillow in the bottom of your bed to keep your feet on at night.
