Visiting the dentist in first trimester?

Is it okay to go and have my teeth cleaned by a hygenist? I'm 9+3

Also - anyone else develop a tiny, pale white spot on a tooth? I can't decide whether it was there before - I don't look too close - or whether I'm convincing myself that this pregnancy is costing me a tooth already!

you should be ok, if in doubt ask the hygenist, they should know.

no idea abou tthe pale spot on the tooth, the hygenist should have more of an idea, if not they can ask the dentist for advice, but im pretty sure the hygenist knows what to refer to the dentist and what not to.

they encourage you to goto the dentist in pregnancy as its free on the NHS for that period and the year after birth? not sure.

the hygenist will be able to substitute anything pregnancy friendly if in fact there is anything not suitable

go but tell them you are pregnant it's the only way to be sure it's safe

I've just had mine done at 10w 5d. I let the hygenist know and she said it was ok to have the clean and also gave me tons of information about pregnancy and dental care. It hurt though as usual...! Good luck

You should definitely be going to the hygienist in your first trimester. As your pregnancy progresses you?ll find that your gums bleed a lot more in pregnancy and so it?s good to make sure your teeth and gums are in as good a shape as they can be early on! You can?t have an x-ray while you?re pregnant but having a hygienist clean your teeth is perfectly fine.
