False positives

Hi, first time poster here! We've been trying to get pregnant for about 8 months and every time my period is even a day late, I do a test, only to be cruelly disappointed with a negative. This time I'm 5 days late, with total pre-period symptoms - sore breasts, cramps - and I did a test today which was positive. I'm utterly over the moon, but also don't want to be let down if this turns out to be a false positive. Has anyone ever had a positive reading that turned out to be wrong?

sore breasts and cramps are also pregnancy symptoms. No such thing as a false +ve except in very rare circumstances. Congratulations!

false positives are practically unheard of - congratulations, how exciting!

Guess the fact that I've started crying reading your answers should be a bit of a giveaway as well...!

I have accepted my fate so what now? I have an appointment with my doctor on Monday. Can anyone recommend a good book or whatever to help guide me through these first few weeks?

I liked the one by Jules Oliver.

woooh! you're pregnant!
Now comes the fun part with all of the 'beautiful' symptoms

Congratulations!!

Your doc will probably give you some info (well, mine did) and there is lots of info online for advice on what to eat/avoid, etc. I haven't got a book yet, I might buy the Mumsnet one after my first scan....

Yay!!
