In my last pregnancy I put on 2 stone, most of it in the 2nd trimester.

Didn't want to put on as much this time but had got to 31 weeks and had put on a stone and a half so not that terrible in the grand scheme of things.

Weighed myself today (32 weeks) and I have put on HALF A STONE in the last week. How???? I have been eating ok, not great, but not terrible either and probably no worse than the rest of the pregnancy.

Can you go through growth spurts or something? I thought I was on track to just put on 2 stone again but I am now 2 stone heavier than I was at the beginning.

If I'm very sensible is it ok to try to lose weight at this stage?

It's ok to eat healthily and cut out any sweets or cakes, but I wouldn't actively try to lose weight now. You only have 8 weeks left.

beanlet · 10/05/2010 19:58

You're supposed to gain more weight in the third semester, because the baby is laying down fat. Just stick to a healthy eating plan, and don't diet -- you should be fine.

DaydreamDolly · 10/05/2010 19:58

Yeah just eat healthily but don't limit your food intake. Try not to obsess about it, as long as you and baby are healthy then that's the main thing.
Even if you end up gaining 2.5 stone it's still within the healthy weight gain.

beanlet · 10/05/2010 19:59

sigh. . . "tri"mester.

withorwithoutyou · 10/05/2010 20:00

I'm just worried if I can put on half a stone in a week what will happen if I do that every week!

I know 2.5 stone isn't terrible but I still had 1 stone to lose from my last pregnancy when I started

withorwithoutyou...know how you feel I was hardely putting on weight and have just piled it on in the last 4 weeks (34ws now), I've put on 2st, can not believe it and still growing. Can not face getting on the scales

ktwiltshire · 10/05/2010 20:15

dont try and loose weight at this stage, sure eat slightly better and more cautiously, less sweet snakcs and more fruit type snacks but dont try and loose weight.

your body, like the baby will go through growth spurts, i wouldnt worry about gaining so much in a week, it could quite easily be a fair bit of water weight, are you puffy in the face, ankles etc at all?

withorwithoutyou · 10/05/2010 20:35

No more chocolate for me then.

None.

I suppose my face is a bit puffy, but I think that's because it is FAT!

i put on a stone in a week over Easter! Fortunately the weight gain slowed right down again and I have only put on a few pounds since then. Hope this is reassuring!

withorwithoutyou · 10/05/2010 21:27

Thanks haggis.

Just checked my preg notes from last time. I weigh a stone more now than I did at 38 weeks last time.

God I'm depressed now.

You also start to hold a lot of water so thats part of it.

Baby is due to gain a lot of weight between 30 and 40 weeks so as siad just eat helthily and all should be ok.

TheBride · 11/05/2010 06:44

I put on nothing until 18 weeks, then piled on 3/4 stone in 3 weeks, then nothing again in the last 2-3 weeks.

I think it just goes in fits and starts. Also, as others have said, water has a lot to do with it

I have a friend who put on 45lbs and then just sort of deflated back to normal once she'd had the baby.

bridgetfidget · 11/05/2010 07:46

It may of course just be a bigger baby! Ihave def put on more weight this time than with previous two,but find I eat more when I am tired to keep going!!! I have just resolved in my head to exercise and eat well once my body is my own again!!!

youremindmeofthebabe · 11/05/2010 08:28

I put loads on between 28 and 33 weeks, and then it eased off a lot, I didn't put huge amounts on over the last six weeks.

withorwithoutyou · 11/05/2010 08:57

Please don't let it be a bigger baby - last one was 9 pounds 11!!!

Strangely, I weighed myself this morning and am only a pound more than I was last week. 6 punds gone overnight?? Can't be the scales as I used two sets

Am very
