Missing twins at an early scan

I had a scan at 6 weeks (for peace of mind), then again at 6+6 (doc thought I might have a blithed ovum. Both scans showed one heartbeat and I was pretty insistent that the consultant at appt 1, and the sonographer 2, have a good look. They both said one heartbeat etc.

How often are twins missed at these scans? I don't have any extreme symptoms - it's just become a bit of a weird obsessive thought with me. I'm 9+2.

Thanks for accommodating my weirdness!!

I would imagine it is pretty accurate tbh.
I had a scan at 8 weeks and they spotted my DTs. (I know 2 weeks is a long time at this stage)

seasister i had a viabilty scan at 6+3 on friday. the sonographer told us that she could not be 100% there was not 2 in there. while she could see one clearly she thought there was a possibility of there being another.

so i guess it's not always so obvious.

my dp has been manically searching youtube, and from what i have seen of twin pg's at 6+ weeks, i should think they would of seen another in there.

IME they don't miss them.

I had twins showing at 6 weeks and a bit.

Why are you so convinced it's twins?

I have a friend with twins conceived with IVF she had an early scan and it was though to be only one baby. Can't remember exactly when they were found to be twins think it might have been 12 week scan. But it is very unusual.

I'm not convinced (I do really think it would be highly unusual for them to miss it. Both scans. When they were emphatic). It's actually just an anxiety. One of the many of the moment. And today i just got it into my head that they'd missed it, which after some time out and about this afternoon (and a lovely bout of acupuncture), I no longer think.

I'm really sorry for sounding like a loony. . My hormones are taking me to some strange and anxious places.

Hi i dont think ur a loony lol, i am actually 6+ weeks and i started to think that what if was twins...i got into my head that it was and actually started to plan how to change my house around to fit them in lol...ive not even had a scan yet..this irrational thinking has passed now and im settled on it being 1 baby..how funny tho i dont even have twins in my family.

I think its quite a normal thing to think I even thought about which buggy to buy and how I would cope with DS2 but alas I am 16+3 with a singleton
