Raspberry leaf tea - when are you supposed to start taking it?

I've done a trawl back through past threads about this and everyone seems to say something different.

Where can I find definitive information about when to start (I'm 30 weeks) and how much to take?

Also, I read on babycentre.co.uk that if you have fibroids you shouldn't take it, or should seek advice from midwives. Anyone know why this might be? Thanks

34 weeks I think.

I started the tea at 34 weeks once a day, 2 a day from 35, 3 from 36 and then at 37 switched to the tablets. Much easier to just swallow 2 of them a day!

I'll start around 32 weeks with one cup a day then from 34 weeks I will gradually add one cup a day per week (if that makes sense) I will be switching to tablets from 36 weeks. That's what I did with my DS

Thanks for starting this thread Betty! I've been asking myself the same question and couldn't find a definitive answer anywhere.

What's it supposed to do again? Baby brain alert.

tone your uterus and help you push. Worked for me, DS was out in three pushes

What is the difference between the tea and tablets?
I drank 3 cups per day, of tea first time, from about 36 weeks. Don't know if it worked or not, but DS was on time, and labour lasted 3 hours.
My sister has given me her cast offs for both, so not sure which to take? seperate or together- or what?

poguemahone · 11/05/2010 22:00

That's a point - I have tablets and not sure how many to take. Any ideas? (37 wks)

I spoke to my mw about rlt and rt today. She said the tea is normally milder than the capsules - check the ingredients on the box and it should list other ingredients eg hibiscus etc. The capsules are rl with gelatin for the capsule.

She said to check with health food shop, but she believed it should be up to 6 capsules (400mg ea) per day pref with food or used to make tea from 37 weeks. Sorry as I am 37 weeks didn't go into logistics much of earlier weeks etc.. I did ask if it was ok to use the rlt bags in addition to the capsules and she said to not take all 6 capsules of rl along with endless cups of rlt. HTH

Oh and she said to crack on with the fresh pineapple aswell!!!!!!!!

del1 · 12/05/2010 21:03

ande - thanks for that! I will start with one cup of tea a day at about 36 wks, then move onto the capsules!
I love pineapple, so thumbs up from me !!
