Not personally but have read and heard about it enough to accept that, while rare, it does happen.
It's likely to be feasible that you really didn't know till the onset of stage 2 labour if
you're a bit chubby with erratic AF
Conversely, if you are very fit with very strong stomach muscles
If you are either older and therefore think that the no-AF and various symptoms are indications of the menopause, or young and naive and determined not to contemplate that you might be PG.

I know a woman who already had foiur children who this happened to. She thought she had gone through menopause and put on a bit of weight I cannot imagine how, but it is perfectly true. She used to live near us. She woke up in the night vomiting and in pain and gave birth to a baby boy in her bathroom! She must have been pushing 50, and had grandchildren!

Woman I worked with it happened to her daughter in law (so it was her first grandchild) Mum was a pilates teacher on the combined pill, when the dr called out realised what was going on he didn't tell her - waited until they got her to the hospital, they thought it was a premature labour but turns out it wasn't but he was only 6lb something.

It has happened to a mner I remember reading a thread with it on.

No.. But close friend of mine found out she was pregnant 4 weeks before her due date.. And gave birth two weeks early!

Shed gone to the doctor with heartburn she couldn't get rid of, had periods all the way through, no bump or any other signs!
Doctold her she was pregnant.. Which was a bit of a shock... And then told her she had about a month to go!

No, but LOVE the programme, "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant" (um - they thought long and hard for that name, didn't they?)

Guess that's where you saw it, Harley?

Actually, did hear of a youngster round here that it happened to. (Well, not that young, about 19 I think).

And, how would Soap Operas cope if it didn't happen every now and then?

No, but my nephew shared a house with someone it happened to (I think he was glad he was out at the time)...seems like every body knows someone who knows someone it happened to.

iirc there was a mner this happened to. It was a horrible experience for her if I remember, she was deeply traumatised by it and her family were very unsupportive and refused to believe that she didn't know.

I think that if it happened to me I would feel cheated out of being pregnant iyswim.

having had massive bumps myself, and incredibly active babies I just can't get my head round this at all!
totally out of my sphere of comprehension.

I wonder if a lot of the time the people do really know, but they don't want to be pregnant and they convince themselves they're not and as it goes on they get better and better at believing themselves?
cos it does seem to happen a lot to teenagers it would seem, and the mind can play powerful tricks

Dominique07 · 08/05/2010 22:05

The mind can play powerful tricks. On the other hand, even when I'm not pregnant, if for some reason I start thinking I might be pregnant, I swear I can feel a baby kicking inside!!!

Actually it did almost happen to a very good friend of mine. She had always had very erratic and unpredictable AF, and though she and her H wanted to have DC, she had about 3 early MCs and they sort of concluded that it just wasn't going to happen.
Then she had a long spell of feeling generally out of sorts, tired, some odd aches and pains or whatever, to the point where she was contemplating going to the GP to see if there was something seriously wrong with her. Then she read an article about women who had not known they were PG till they were in labour, and it described the sort-of-vague-symptoms that some of them had had, and contacted a MW friend instead, who said, 'Well you are about 5 months PG.'
(Her DD is now 7. And she has a DS too.)
