Hi all,

I am on my very first pregnancy (yeeii!!) and I am so happy and at the same time scared at every little change or weird pain I get.

The day after I found out I was pregnant I started having a small bleeding for several days. Talked to my GP and she sent me to an Early Pregnancy department. I had a scan and the baby is fine and with a heart beat! After 6 days of no bleeding they have started again, it is kind of brown and a bit of red, I have not lost the symptoms (hurting breasts, tiredness, constipation etc). The doctor told me that this bleedings are quite normal as far as I don't have strong pelvic pain and kind of contraction pains. How can I know how contraction pains are if this is my first pregnancy?

My ante-natal appointment is in two weeks, do you guys know if there is any sort of "pregnancy hot-line" that I can call instead of rushing the to the hospital each time I feel weird? All these stretching and tingling and period pains are kind of confusing for me since it is my first pregnancy and I have to confess that it is a bit scary when you don't know what is going on with your own body even though you read and investigate about pregnancy.

Thanks guys!

Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy!
I don't know if there is a hotline number, I'm not aware of one. I had several spotting episodes up to 8 weeks. In the early weeks I saw my GP, then when you have your booking in appointment with your midwife, she will give you your notes to keep with you, and there are several numbers to call if you are worried.
As for pains, watch out for period type pains, don't ignore these - but other stretching pains or back pain can usually be put down to ligaments stretching. Take it easy, it's very easy to strain yourself now! Good luck x

Don't forget you can go back to the Epu - don't worry about 'rushing to hospital each time'. Try and get another scan. I had loads of bleeding and (mild) pains in both pregnancies. Last time was fine, and this timeI'm 17 weeks and so far so good. Hope all is well x

I think the only place you call is the hospital, I know thats the case in my area. If you have concerns though then give them a call, it their job to help you and your not pestering them.

I had on and off bleeding and pains when pregnant, it was all fine though and I was told it was very common.

See how it goes and if your worried then give them a call.
