Mushroom Pate in first trimester

Hi there,

I am having a real craving for Suma Organic Mushroom Pate - the kind you get in health food shops in a squeezy tube.

Can anyone advise if this is safe for me to eat please?

Ingredients are: Water, Yeast, Mushrooms, Sunflower Oil, Palm Fat, Potato Flour, Onions, Dried Onions, Sea Salt, Yeast Extract, Paprika, Cloves, Nutmeg, Thyme and Garlic.

I realise deli or liver pate etc is not advised but I wondered if this type was any different.

Thank you.

All kinds of pate aren't advised because of the tiny risk of listeria, even veggie ones.

Nothing is ever 100% safe to eat though.

The tube ones are long-life, should be bacteria-free, and no listeria risk as far as I can see - no more dangerous than Marmite, surely? Just use them up within the recommended time once they are open. I'm not sure what the position is on the mushroom pate you sometimes get in chiller cabinets, though, as that is made with soft cheese.

Aren't people getting a bit over-paranoid about what you can and can't eat in pregnancy? Every country has different ideas about what is dangerous. I was pregnant in Japan where everyone eats sushi while pregnant - I gather it's on the forbidden list here. But everyone was shocked when I wore sandals and no socks there - apparently one of the most dangerous things a pregnant woman can do is let her feet get cold . Relax and enjoy your pate...

Thank you both for your feedback.

Nice to hear about other cultures' quirks. My feet are always cold

Not sure I know what to do still but I do knowing I can't think about anything else at the moment except that yummy mushroom pate that's sitting looking at me.

What exexpat said.

Seriously, relax.

The soft cheese in pates is just Philadelphia type soft cheese, so completely fine.

It's fine.

You will not catch listeria in your lifetime from pate, meat or vegetable-based.

Another "fear" of pate is Vit A overdose - as this is derived from the liver in meat-based pates - and one would have to wonder exactly how many kilos of pate you were eating... dig in!
