Hi
I'm 25 weeks with my second child. I feel my bump kind of drags down and can feel uncomfortable walking or standing too much. I find supporting it with my hand feels much comfier. Does anyone use or can recommend a support belt type band thing? Do they work/help?

Cheers

I bought the Nexcare Maternity Support from Mothercare. It was quite good until my bump got quite low. I then found that I couldn't wear it low enough without it digging in to my legs. I could feel the benefit whilst my bump was higher though.

I have to say I had that one from mothercare too, and it was about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Really flimsy. I think that midwives sometimes sell/ can direct you to proper physio-designed ones... I seem to recall seeing some in attractive flesh-coloured nylon (ugh!) on the shelves when I had my antenatal appointments.....

Ask your midwife or doctor for a referral to your physio and they might well give you one. I've been given a couple of different ones of differing sizes as the bump gets bigger (am now on tentacle-style one). In my experience giant tubigrip was only good for v early and post-pregnancy (held in the jelly belly!) but on me just rolled over all the time once I got big.

I have heard that using support belts can end of weakening the stomach muscles as they're not used, so making things worse in the long run - anyone know any more?

I have had 2 really good ones, with dc1 i bought a Bellybra which is really comfy and doesn't look too bad in black. I think either jojo or blooming do them. I wore it a lot and then all the time with dc2 and it's still fine but i'm tall and as I'm not the same size as I was it's a little short now. So 2 weeks ago I bought a Carriwell support band which is really comfy and takes just enough weight off without digging in. I'd buy either again but the carriwell band seemed a better bet for a summer pg. (I'm 31w)
