using moxibustion to turn a breech baby - any tips/websites?

Hi,

My baby is still breech at 35+3. A woman in my yoga class told me about moxibustion - a chinese herb to help turn the baby. I've bought the sticks from a chinese herbalist shop but the guy was a bit vague, something about burning them on your little toes twice a day?! Do I have to be in a certain position? Do I have to do both toes at once? Should I do anything afterwards?

Any advice from someone who's actually had it done by someone who knows what they're doing would be gratefully received! Or a link to a website with a step-by-step guide?

Thank you!

Hi!

Read about this a couple of days again, you need to burn it over the accupressure point.
This website has some info on it by a lady who practiceswww.bristolfertilitysolutions.co.uk/breech.asp
You may want to look up accpuncture points to find the right one.

Have you looked at www.spinningbabies.com/ ?

Also have you thought about seeing a Chiropracter who can do the webster technique as this is susposed to be effective.

More info on the technique on this website

Good Luck with the turning

The acupuncture point you need to burn the sticks over is called bladder 67 and is situated one the outside edge of the toe at the nail bed.

  • the sticks should be lit and held over the points on both feet simultaneously whilst you are lying comfortably with your legs raised.
  • The sticks should be held close enough so that they feel warm but not hot
  • Treat for 15 minutes twice daily for 10 treatments
  • You should be able to feel the baby move during the treatment
  • If you feel the baby may have turned treatment should be stopped until the position is checked as continuing to use could cause the baby to turn back again.
  • Do not wet the moxa sticks to put them out, put in a jar of salt to extinguish.

Hope that helps, good luck.

thanks, that's really helpful. Gave it a try last night and stunk the house out! Going to persevere though, if it gets this baby to turn it's worth it!

Keep trying itit worked for me! My dr was going to try turning it but she turned at week 36 with moxibustion. My husband held the sticks for me as I found it difficult to reach my feet. He waved them in tiny circles around the acupuncture point for 10-15 minutes in the evening. You can try twice a day but we didn't have the chance. I also did not realise that my baby had movednot until the dr scanned her just before trying to turn her. I guess I couldn't distinguish between her regular movements and her turning. Ended up with a natural birth. Hope it works for you. Good luck!
