No heartbeat heard at 15+5

Hello,
I am hoping someone here has been through this and can give me a little bit of hope.
Last July I found out our baby had died sometime between 14 and 19 weeks. I only found out as I had a bleed at 19 weeks and went to hospital for a scan, to be told baby had died.

I am now 15+5 weeks preg and just been for my mw app, she said she would listen for hb but not to worry if she couldn't find it. She couldn't find it and now of course I am terrified. I do have a scan booked for 1:20pm 2moz afternoon.

Has anyone else not heard the hb, and all everything been ok? I have 3 dd's and can't remember when I heard the hb with them, also not sure if I have felt baby move yet

Thanks for reading.

My MW only starts listening for the heartbeat from about 18wks onwards. In an earlier pregnancy the MW was unable to find a hb with the doppler but a scan showed that the baby was fine.

It's still a little early to be worried about not feeling movements yet (although obviously understandable under the circumstances). This time around I didn't really start to feel anything until 18wks+.

Good luck with the scan tomorrow.

It's quite normal not to have felt the baby move at 15 weeks -the normal is 16 +. ou usually feel it move earlier with subsequent babes but if you're dashing here, there and everywhere, it might be that it oves more when you're asleep at night and you don't notice.
I'm surprised with your recent mc history, that the midwife didn't wait for longer until she found it but I guess the baby could have been lying in a position where she couldn't find it. If you cannot wait until tomorrow, why don't you call the mat unit and pop in to let them listen. I know it's tomorrow, your appointment but 24 hrs is a long time for something like this.
Is tomorrow's scan your 2nd or have you missed the 12 week scan? If you had a 12 week, did they hear the hb then?

Pancakeflipper · 05/05/2010 14:09

I recall utter fear when my MW couldn't find the heartbeat at 16 weeks. My blood ran cold. My baby was ok so I am hoping very much it's the same for you.

I am not sure how common this is but you aren't the only one.

Please let us know how you go on tomorrow. I hope it is happy new for you and we can do a happy dance.

Hi, I'm 14+6, I don't want to either get your hopes up or dash them, I'm merely saying I rented a Doppler on Friday, I found a heartbeat on Saturday, couldn't find one on Monday, found it again on Tuesday. Good luck at your scan XX

legallyblond · 05/05/2010 16:14

Hope all is ok for you

How scary.

When I saw my MW at 16+2, she said it was more than likely that should would not find a heartbeat and not to worry if she didn't.

Hope all goes well in the scan x

Hi,Im sorry to hear what you have been through in the past and are going through right now.It must be such a worry for u.

I am pregnant with my 3rd and here our team of MW'S wont listen in until you are 22 weeks. The main reason they give is beacuse it cause's mums so much worry and anxiety if they cant hear anything. Try to keep calm and as positive as possible(i know that's easier said than done).Good luck to you tomorrow xx

boodleboot · 05/05/2010 16:42

so sorry that you are having this anxious time especially after such a sad outcome for you with the other pregnancy....my MW didn't listen for bubs HB until i was 18+3 and it took her about fifteen minutes to find it then....she said it was because baby was laying in a really awkward position....i was panicking like a goodun i can tell you....please try to stay as calm as you can until tomorrow and i will be praying that you have a wonderful scan appt. xxxxx

boodleboot · 05/05/2010 16:44

also - i am 20+6 today and only for the last week would i confidently say that i have DEFINiTELY felt proper kicks for the last couple of weeks....lots of early whooshings but unequivocable kicks for the last week....and this is my third.

good luck again

auntypurple · 06/05/2010 00:20

Thanks everyone, I had my scan at 12 weeks, well 12+6 and baby was spot on for dates. The scan 2moz is because I saw the consultant last week because of what happened last time. I was rather upset so they arranged an extra scan for me. I am really lucky to be getting that.

I will update 2moz when I am home.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 06/05/2010 07:03

Good luck aunty; my mid-wife refused to check for heartbeat before 17 weeks because she said she rarely found it before then and felt it caused too much stress.

piccalily · 06/05/2010 16:11

hope all went well with your scan aunty x

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 06/05/2010 16:17

hope it went ok, thinking of you x

Haribolicious · 06/05/2010 16:44

Good luck with the scan. My mw couldn't find hb with my second dc at around 16wks and it turned out I had a low lying placenta which can make it difficult to find hb and to feel movement. All was fine in the end tho didn't feel movement until around 20wk scan and even then it was only the light 'butterfly twitches'. Fingers crossed it will be ok for you too - it's such a worrying time....my mw was rubbish at reassuring me and I changed mw after this appt....I was out of my mind with worry.

legallyblond · 06/05/2010 17:17

Hope all went well auntypurple x x x

Hello,
Sorry only just had chance to get on here, been a very long day.
Baby is doing really well, spot on for my dates of 15+6 and has a lovely strong heartbeat.

They checked my notes and said the baby we lost didn't measure any more than 15 weeks, so this one is already past that and they think we don't have anything to worry about.
Placenta is at the front, so not likely to feel or here anything for a good few weeks.

Thanks for all your kind words.

Excellent news....really pleased for you

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 07/05/2010 09:14

Auntypurple, I've been checking back to see how it went. So glad all was well!! Maybe the placenta being at the front is also the reason why the heartbeat was hard to find? Anyway, it's worth knowing!! So pleased for you.
