well...it certainly wasn't there at the last scan at 12wks but sonographer pointed it out yesterday and it looks massive to me...4cm by 4cm by 3.7cm....midwive has said that i will have to be scanned again at 34 weeks to see how much it has grown....i stupidly googled yesterday and am now petrified that it will squash the bubs or cause stillbirth or prem labour....

help....anyone able to reassure me?

I have a whopper of a fibroid - in my last pregnancy it grew to about 12cm.

Did the sonographer say where it was? That's quite key. Mine, although enormous, didn't present a huge problem as it's on the outer wall of the uterus. I was under consultant care, was advised to have a hospital birth, but managed to labour normally. I had a canula inserted into my hand during labour, which was a precautionary measure - fibroids can cause post-partum haemorrhage and in my case they waited to see whether I was bleeding heavily and dealt with it by putting Syntometrine (? I think?) into the drip after the birth.

If they aren't worried about seeing you again until 34 weeks, I wouldn't be too concerned. They would probably have referred you immediately to consultant care if they had any doubts.

Fibroids are v commonly identified during pregnancies, and they do respond to the pregnancy hormones which can make them grow. Try not to worry!

thanks betty - that is really helpful to know....they said it is in the inside of my womb at the top - def nowhere near the birth canal or what not - in relation to my belly button it is just above it and really has made me look at least 6months or more pregnant since 4 months (makes sense now tho!! i thought they had missed twins or my baby was going to be the size of a linebacker!!)....they will check my fundal height at 25 wk midwife check and if concerned with growth ( i was over last time) then refer me for scan at 28-30wks)

urgh - i had a canula for my last pregnancy in both hands due to possibly having to have CS as my DS didn't like being induced....it made labouring really difficult i found as couldn't be mobile enough {i like to pace!)....fingers crossed i don't have to have one this time....
