pregnancy makes my dh smell!

Oh dear - my heightened sense of smell means I don;t like how my dh smells. He is not smelly as in unwashed but just his normal smell (which I usually love having a cuddle and sniff of his chest - just realised how weird that sounds) I can't bear now. He cycles so it's particularly bad if he is sweaty but even just after shower I find it hard. Anyone else get this?

lol, pregnancy makes my dh smell bad too!
i cant kiss him because his breath is so bad (its actually not its just me!) and when he gets home from work he stinks, he's an accountant, so not exactally a labourer!) i've bought him amazingly strong deodrant and mints and mouth wash.

but he just stinks!! normally i find he smells sweet or i dont even notice it.

i feel your pain.

mollybob · 04/05/2010 11:16

I find being cuddled from behind the best bet and snogging is a distant memory. The kids also stink.

Pregnancy - you gotta love it!

ciaobella19 · 04/05/2010 11:19

Ha ha, sorry to laugh, but these posts did make me smile, especially mollybob's!! I was the same with my husband, I kept making him take showers, but it didn't make any difference..he still stank!! I also couldn't stand the smell of newspaper print, so he was banned from reading the Sunday Papers in the house for months, the two smells combined was unbearable! I love him really!

Pepsiginn · 04/05/2010 12:17

I had this but it seemed to have worn off around 16 weeks... Are you all under that time-scale - because there may be hope after all!

addictedisinthesecondtrimester · 04/05/2010 12:20

peps fingers crossed then, i'm 13+5 at the moment

Pepsiginn · 04/05/2010 12:28

Tee hee addicted - i hope so!
I was lucky the DH wasn't offended by me slinking out of his grasp everytime he came near!

Octaviapink · 04/05/2010 14:28

I had this first time around - it wasn't so much that I found he smelled bad as I just really went off his personal smell! Didn't like being cuddled or anything! It did go off though - sometime after the first trimester - and it hasn't been as bad at all this time!

SmallShips · 04/05/2010 14:38

One of my earliest signs of pregnancy all 3 times, was DH smelling of pepper. Lasted until delivery!

nunnie · 04/05/2010 14:42

Mine too can't put my finger on it but he hums. Sadly so does my DD, and my dogs actually evetyone hums.

Oh well only another 5 and half months of whiffers, then back to my oblivious less delicate sense of smell hopefully.

twolittlemonkeys · 04/05/2010 14:42

Snap. I have to bite my tongue to stop myself telling DH he stinks when in fact, he probably doesn't, it's just my bionic nose playing tricks!

giddywithglee · 04/05/2010 15:13

In my case my hubbie smells OK, but we had some friends to stay this weekend and I had to go round secretly opening windows because the smell of them was making me feel ill - my husband thinks I'm mad!

nomorecake · 04/05/2010 16:07

worse than that is artificial smells.

perfume\aftershave are suffocating.

mollybob · 04/05/2010 16:44

I'm nearing 38 weeks but am still pukingtoo so I'm not a good example of when pregnancy symptoms wear off. I also have the craziest sense of taste - I can spot flavours with the skill of a Masterchef judge. DH bought a different brand of pesto sauce and I spotted it when no one else did.

I also frequently feeling like vomiting as a result of hoe I smell

StrawberryNesquik · 04/05/2010 17:10

I brought my DP an electric toothbrush because his breath smelled so bad I thought he had tooth decay!!! Pregnancy's fun ain't it? (grin)

serenity · 04/05/2010 17:14

I had this with when pregnant with DD (but not the DSs oddly) Cuddling the DSs or DH made me heave, I had to drive with the window open as the car made me heave, also had to give up eating dairy and meat as the smell and taste made me sick too (DD is evil!) Unfortunately it didn't wear off with me until a couple of days after she was born (and even now I have issues with dairy)

chummymummy · 04/05/2010 22:00

ha ha i know i am pregnant when i cant stand the smell of my normally fragrant husband. I cant kiss him without feeling sick...and god forbid he should breathe on me in his sleep. He doesn't smell bad - its just a warm 'human' smell that makes me heave.
I also become obsessed with the smell of dettol and mint.

woollyjo · 04/05/2010 22:21

morning breath on DH and DD urgh! (34+ weeks) never normally notice it.

I'm loving very strong mint smells (sniffing the original source conditioner - yum)

fireflyz · 05/05/2010 08:20

This thread made me laugh and cry at the same time. My poor DH. He has been using listerine day and night and constantly chewing minty gums. I thought he was getting bad breath as a result of all the stress of running around after me! I can't even open the fridge door at the moment.

10 weeks in and oh god I want to get THROUGH with this bit!

boodleboot · 05/05/2010 16:52

My DH risked asking for an early night 'snuggle' last night and before i could help it i had said - 'urrrgh no, you smell like old boiled broccoli and cauliflower '....

ah. only another 18 wks.....

DoulaKate · 05/05/2010 18:17

Ha ha ha. I'm really loving these posts. I must have a dodgy sense of humour as I can't stop laughing at them. Boodleboot, that made me really laugh out loud. Your poor DH, I can imagine the expression on his face after that comment!!
