Average head circumference at birth?

Wasjsut wondering how big a babys head has to be to be called big?!

My son's head circumference was 37 cm. I'veust been talking to someone who was saying how painful crowning was because her baby had a big head, I asked what the measurement was and she said 36 cm, although her babywas a girl and I believe a boys average head size is bigger than a girls.

also not sure what's classed as big,but my ds was born 6wks ago and his head was also 37cms.

Bez - from my days as a midwife I seem to remember most baies being between 35 -37cms. Occasionally we got a 34cm or a 38cm (ouch). I think 38 is big (but still normal). So 37cms sounds quite normal.

DS2 was 39.5

DS1 had what looked like a very big head at birth (though was CS so no ouches) - I just checked and it was "only" 36.5!
