I am 18+4 today. Since the beginning of the week I seem to have completely lost the ability to sleep... every night I try to lie on my left hand side but my lower back is just agony - I feel like I need a mountain of cushions behibnd me just to feel vaguely supported, and even that doesn't help that much. I constantly wake up with back ache.

I am fine during the day but then start to ache terribly by the evening... and its also my "bump" that aches. Last night, It woke me up.. if I lay on my left, the right side of my lower abdomen was "pulling"/aching and if I lay on my right, the left side pulled/hurt.

Just to clarify, the pains don't feel like bad period cramps or tightening or anything, just like a mild, dull ache that gets worse and more uncomfortabe in the evenings/at night.

I know this is probably completely normal and nothing to worry about... I hope , but its a bit of a shock to the system as I've felt fine so far this pregnancy! Also, I have no idea what to expect!

Call your midwife she is likely to be very supportive. If she tells you that there is nothing to worry about, ask her if a massage would be helpful. May be she (midwife) can also give you advice about food to eat or drinking enough water.
