I am 30 wks pregnant, and have a throat/ear infection, does anyone know if antibiotics are best avoided like other drugs? I don't know whether it is worth the monumental hassle of going to the GP if only to be told there's nothing I can take, and I should just put up with it.

Certain types are safe, it is worth going to the GP as they will definitely know. They won't give you antibiotics if they are confident your illness is viral rather than bacterial in origin.
Hope you feel better soon!

Hi Ali
Sorry....dont know the names but I had a number of bladder infections during pregnancy and needed to take antibiotics. I was totally against taking any medication while pregnant but checked with a family friend whos a Gp and he confirmed that the ones I took were safe. Anyway, its worth going to your GP and getting it cleared up - and obviously they'll know which ones are ok.

Hi Ali! the usual treatment for ear/throat is penicillin which is fine to take in pregnancy (as long as you are not allergic to them).Have you ever thought of trying homeopathy it is totally safe in pregnancy and will generally help improve your immune system.
hope you get better soon.
