Period like bleeding and clots!

I am (or was) 10 weeks pregnant. In the last week or so I have had a brown discharge, pink blood and now red blood. Last night and this afternoon I passed a clot. I feel well in myself, no stomach aches. The bleeding is like a period. I have a scan tomorrow afternoon and just wondered really if anyone else has been through similar and what the outcome was. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I have never had this. Also did 2 Pregnancy tests today both very positive and the clear blue digital said 3+. I know hormones don't immediately disappear after miscarriage but I guess I'm just clinging onto some hope!

I don't want to give you false hope but with my ds2 I bed HEAVILY at 14 weeks. All was fine and they never did get to the bottom of what caused the bleed. Good luck for your scan tomorrow.

hi Nancy, I'm sorry that none of us can diagnose online - is there any way you can get to the EPU today or have the scan brought forward a day to save you more worry?

I don't want to give you false hope, but someone I knew mc'd at 10 weeks and passed a clot of "tissue" the size of an egg. It might just be that you're bleeding a little - and from what I understand bleeding during pregnancy is far, far, far more common than any of us would believe.

It may have been a twin pregnancy and one didn't make it? This happened to a good friend of mine and scared her silly - but a EPU scan reassured her that there was still a baby there! HTH

My best friend had this from 12 weeks - bleeding with clots but no pain. It turned out that the baby was fine but that the placenta had come away for the lining of the uterus (can't remember the exact terms...). She was on strict bed rest for about two to three months (thankfully for her, she didn't work and had someone to help with her other two DCs). After that, the pregnancy was normal and she delivered a perfectly heathly son excatly on her EDD! He was very slightly small (5lb 10oz) but has no health problems or anything.

You really do need to get this checked out asap though - if nothing else so that you don't worry! Can you go to your EPU now?

legallyblond · 29/04/2010 15:54

Sorry: the placenta had come away from the lining of the uterus

Hi. Had bleeding of all shades and quantities from weeks 5-8. EPU did an early scan and all was fine. DD now 18 months. They could find no reason for the bleed. The fact that you have no pain is a good sign. Fingers crossed.x

Thanks for all your replies. Unfortunately not long after I posted, I began getting belly ache really low down and lower back ache. I went for a lie down and when I rolled over I felt a rush off blood. I went to the loo and passed a really large clot. I couldn't really say whether it was definately a baby or not. But it was different and much larger then the previous clots. I still have the ache but I'm sure my pregnancy is over. Will find out definately tomorrow.

bella8445 · 30/04/2010 09:25

Hi Im so sorry you are going through this, I know what you are going through as on Sunday I had just the same as you, went to a&e where I passed something big was told by doctor i was miscarriaging, went for a scan on the tuesday only to be told my baby was ok. I had pains too, I dont want to give you hope but its like the scan team said all you can do is keep the faith, fingers crossed, I hope all goes well for you today.x

Nancy10 · 30/04/2010 09:38

Although I'm still bleeding it has eased off, the stomach cramps have stopped and I do feel well in myself. Until I have the scan there is still a part of me that really feels the baby could still be ok. I did a Clearblue digital test late last night (just couldn't help myself) and it came up 'pregnant 3+.' I know I still have the HCG hormone in my body becaused it's early days. But I was really expecting it to say 'pregnant 1-2 or pregnant 3-4 not 3+ (the maximum number.) It's going to be a really long long day.

what time is your appointment today nancy? will be following to see how you get on, let us know, fingers crossed for you.

Nancy10 · 30/04/2010 09:54

It's 4pm, but from my previous pregnancies, afternoon scans are always running at least an hour late. Then we've got to pick up my children so I might not get to the computer that early. But will definately post the outcome tonight!

Oh Nancy - I am so sorry. I don't want to get your hopes up, but people have passed clots and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy....

Good luck Nancy, I hope all is OK.

Nancy10 · 30/04/2010 19:10

Well I went for my scan and as I had expected, I've had a complete miscarriage . I really expected it but until the scan confirms it, part of me did think the baby could be ok. I felt alright at the time and fortunately the waiting room was empty. It was just us, so I didn't feel I had to put on a brave face. I'm just glad I know and I haven't got to have a D&C. My ovaries and womb are as they should be. I'll try again in a couple of months when my body has recovered. And hope I never have to go through this again. I really feel for women who have go through this again and again. Thanks for all your messages!

DomesticG0ddess · 02/05/2010 09:13

Really sorry to read that Nancy. I had a mc in January that my body passed on it's own, and if it is any consolation I got pg about 2-3 weeks after - I didn't wait for my period.
